Cayman Islands Earthquake Shakes Region Still Further
The Cayman Islands were hit by 5.8-magnitude earthquake which struck Tuesday at 9:23 AM EST. The quake's epicenter was 40 miles form the capital, George Town at a depth of 6.2 miles, the U.S.
The Cayman Islands earthquake is just the latest in the Caribbean Region, which is still recovering from the Haiti earthquake of a week ago.

Quake rattles buildings, nerves in Cayman Isles

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (Reuters) - Buildings and homes shook in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday as a 5.8 magnitude earthquake rattled the Caribbean hedge fund center, but there were no reports of injury or damage.

Minor temblors are common in the region, but Cayman residents were mindful of the 7.0 earthquake that devastated much of the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince a week ago.

"The whole building was rocking," said Junior Elliott, 30, who was delivering water bottles to a four-story office building near the harbor in George Town, the capital.

Guatemala, Venezuela, Argentina earthquakes after Haiti Earthquake

It was 6.0 on the Richter Scale and rocked Guatemala and parts of El Salvador on Monday, but no damage was reported.

On Sunday a 6.3 earthquake was reported in the South Atlantic, just near Argentina. The Latin American Herald Tribune reports:

There's no word if these quake events in South and Central America and the Carribean - all close to each other - are in some way related, as of this writing. But the timing alone would seem a good reason to investigate what's happening.

Wow....who knew earthquakes in the carribean?? Huricaines..yes..but quakes?

I would rather a huricaine any day JMO

btw...Grand Cayman has a lot of money..they were hard hit by Wilma and so were we in South Florida...

I was there the year after Wilma and all their roofs and lights were great, they were rebuilt but we still had temp/bad lights and blue tarps on roofs and much destruction

mucho money in GC....$$$$$$$$

God Bless them...hope they are ok but I am sure they can rebuild very fast
and I bet their homes and apt buildings etc are up to code
