8.3 Earthquake in Chile and Tsunami Warnings

To those who were wondering about my Dad in Argentina - I received an email from him that he is fine. Thanks for the prayers!!
 
I'm not at all familiar with earthquakes. Are aftershocks normally this active? I'm seeing 50+, just today, with most being around 5. There was even another at 6.1. I can't even imagine...

[/FONT][FONT=&quot]The massive 8.8 earthquake that struck Chile may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and shortened the length of days on our planet, a NASA scientist said Monday.[/FONT]

[FONT=&quot]The quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit Chile Saturday and should have shortened the length of an Earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. [/FONT]

"Perhaps more impressive is how much the quake shifted Earth's axis," NASA officials said in a Monday update.
