Man suspected of smoking pot at casino flees by swimming to Missouri River (Kansas City Star)

A man suspected of smoking marijuana inside the Argosy Casino in Riverside eluded authorities this morning after jumping into a creek and swimming toward the Missouri River.

Riverside police received a call for assistance about 4:30 a.m. from the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Gaming Division. They were in a foot chase with a man believed to be in his 20s.

A witness told police that the man reached a sandbar and was standing on it. Police, however, couldn’t get to him without swimming in the river.

By the time rescue boats got to the sandbar, the man was gone. Police believe he slipped past as they were setting up a perimeter.

Authorities do not believe the man drowned.

Police arrest man who swam away from casino

Police have captured a man suspected of smoking marijuana inside the Argosy Casino in Riverside and then attempting to elude arrest by swimming away.

The man was captured this morning at the General Motors Fairfax plant across the river in Kansas City, Kan., according to police dispatchers.
