Money factor?

If LISK had access to some property owned by either him or relatives in NY then maybe he moved due to money factor.

I strongly believe he had some childhood local tie to the Long Island Gilgo beach type area but he could have moved to california for a period of time and then moved back possibly.

I havent looked at the possible California connection but I think I saw some previous posts here with that same thought that he could possibly be the East Area Rapist. Its worth reading backwards to find those posts if there was more information in that regard.

Very possible, thanks for that perspective. But then I would think he's too old to be running around planning all of these physical activities (carrying bodies) and his computer/phone/technical skills..... But who knows, anything is possible!!!!

DANNEMORA, N.Y. - Long Island serial killer Joel Rifkin says he's not impressed by the fiendish handiwork of a murderer who dumped the bodies of four women near Oak Beach.
With the air of a veteran schooling an amateur, Rifkin said the sicko being hunted by cops and the FBI should never have left all the corpses in one place.
"I dumped them hundreds of miles apart," Rifkin proudly told the Daily News Wednesday in a 70-minute interview at the upstate prison where he will spend the rest of his life.
Rifkin killed 17 prostitutes in a four-year spree - and took pains to dispose of the bodies.
His victims were scattered in rivers and wooded areas from the east end of Long Island to upstate. Three were never found.

Rifkin suggested the killer was sloppy for picking a single dumping ground because it alerted cops to the likelihood of a serial killer and brought more heat to the case.

The Daily News front pages told the story after Joel Rifkin was caught (Daily News).
He speculated that the suspect would have shared some of his experiences: growing up lonely in the suburbs, being mocked and bullied, grappling with anger.
"America breeds serial killers," Rifkin said. "You don't see any from Europe."
Police have not identified the Oak Beach victims, but they are investigating possible links to two missing hookers - which did not surprise Rifkin.
He said prostitutes are obvious targets for serial slayers.
"No family," he explained, occasionally breaking into laughter as he discussed his bloody history. "They can be gone six or eight months, and no one is looking."
The two missing women in the Suffolk County probe advertised their services on craigslist, which didn't exist when Rifkin was hunting for victims.
He focused on anonymous street hookers, not expensive escorts.

The reason I ask, is 3 of the identified victims seem to begin with the letter "M" and I'm wondering if Amber could have possibly have gone by a name that begins with "M". Also, along those lines, if that appears to be the case, I'm wondering if someone in LISK's family (maybe mother???) name would also begin with an "M".

Since this case has been open for quite some time, discussion threads for specific aspects (i.e. victim threads, POI threads, etcetera) have likely already been created. To find these threads, simply go to the top of the LISK forum, and select the search drop down (see below):

And type in your search terms. This will result in a list of threads that contain your search terms. Then simply pick the thread that most closely matches your search.

Notably, the primary reason for this is to provide a means for organizing information in such a way to make it much easier to find in the future. This is especially important with unsolved cases that have their own forum, such as this.

And finally, if there is not a thread, you can start your own. Just please make sure a thread does not already exist. If you're new to websleuths and unable to start a thread, feel free to contact one of us by clicking the little alert triangle icon

in the bottom left of any post, and enter your request there (preferably what you would actually post if you were starting a thread, to save us time! lol).

Thanks FHG! Yes! I've got the DVR set to record just in case I need to step out (as mentioned upstream, for fellow DVR users, select "record series" ).

Another thought/question is have any victims not confirmed to be prostitutes been definitively linked to LiSK? While his victim preference and MO seems clear, we have seen killers who kill nonprostitutes additionally. I remember a case out of Florida where a random victim, not prostitute, was laid in a grave along the side of the road right next to other victims, who were prostitutes. Sorry I can not recall the case details. For some reason I want to say it might have been in Florida, and a skull was found near Disney in a swamp, (this last factor re: the skull I could be confusing with another case.)

Hi there, outside of the first one (482), which I already copied to the other thread, these don't actually involve geographical profiling. They could potentially fit under psychological profiling... or maybe... "what's in a name?"

I'll think about creating a separate thread but want to see what episode 3 & 4 reveal. And, if it makes sense, I'll create a separate thread.
