A lesson in glutony

I' d hate to be around when it passes through.

If I'd have known what that pic was going to be of, I so wouldn't have clicked on it.
That gave me goosebumps!

I'd hate to be the snake when it passes through! The jaw dislocates to stretch enough to eat something that big - but does the anus? OUCH!

This is just sick to look at...
I fed a huge rat to one of my snakes before - and it does look quite uncomfortable - but I'm sure the snake in the picture will be fine, and grow another few inches from the experience.

I'll bet you could make a King Sized comforter from the shed of this thing!

You have a snake... I love God's creatures, but snakes and bugs go all the way to the bottom of my list. Poor rat (can't believe I said that) was it dead before you fed it to your pet?

I have five snakes, and I don't kill their food first because I can't. It's not in my nature to kill anything, but it is in their nature to do it. It came down to - do I want the snakes to starve or not.

Maybe this photo will change your mind. It's Mergatroid - just emerging from his shell as a newborn baby. http://www.pbase.com/sir_erik/image/47420471

She's a yearling now.

A snake's digestion is very slow, but its extreeeemely thorough. Their poop is a lot like that of owls. This critter probably won't need to eat again for months.

Um, no, sorry. I don't love him any more than I did before.

But I'm so glad you do!

Yeah? Well, I have a six foot ball python that when it eats a big rat - well, let's just say it looks like a dog got into the tank with him sometimes! :-)

Sometimes, it's a white blop. Sometimes, it's just as brown as doggie do. I can't figure it out - but the snakes are healthy.

You can't just reach out to that chin and go goochie goo?

Okay I think that made it worse.

When your snakey was eating the rat ( ) did the rat suffer? I don't want any living thing to suffer.

It's all over with pretty fast, but yes, it does. So would starvation though, from the snake's point of view, I suppose. It's an ugly business, but so is a slaughterhouse that hurts the animals to make your dog's food, is how I look at it.

If it's any consolation, two rats were "saved" recently because my daughter thought they were too cute. We now have rat pets, too.
