A man has been arrested following the horrific alleged assault on grandmother in a Sydney park.


Police allege the man, 52, punched the 71-year-old woman in the head while she was out with her six-year-old grandson at a park in Strathfield on Thursday, before fleeing the scene.

Emergency services were called to the park on Francis St about 12.10pm following reports of the assault, NSW Police said in a statement.

“She was found with significant injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition,” a police spokesperson said.

“Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The man and woman are not known to each other.”

It is understood the woman remains in a critical condition.

Little boy raises alarm after grandmother allegedly assaulted in 'abhorrent' park attack​


CCTV from the scene shows the little boy grabbing his ball and dragging his bike away after the alleged assault.
The six-year-old raise the alarm with his mother and she rushed to the scene.

The grandmother was rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition and underwent emergency surgery to have part of her skull removed.

Grandmother fighting for life after she was allegedly king hit by a stranger in front of her young grandson at a park - as harrowing footage emerges​


The 71-year-old woman has undergone emergency surgery and is in a critical condition after she was attacked by John Bozic, 52, in Strathfield in Sydney's inner-west on Thursday.

Bozic later appeared in Burwood Local Court, where he was refused bail.

The court heard that the alleged incident was a 'deliberate assault which had racial implications'.

Police have since described the alleged attack as 'absolutely abhorrent.'
