The ONLY reason Imus got fired is because advertisers were pulling out of the shows (both MSNBC and the radio)... it's the advertisers who shut him down, not the people with morals (ha!) at any of the stations.
Exactly.
Personally, I could stand listening and watching Imus for about the same length of time that I can tolerate Howard Stern, but that is why televisions and radios come equipped with mechanisms which change the stations.
It is also why message boards have a variety of subject matter from which to choose, how exactly, we decide to spend our time and it is also why we are offered the ability to use an 'ignore button'.
If we listen to it, watch it, or read it, IT IS OUR CHOICE and OUR DECISION to do so. The only person that we can hold accountabe for having done so, is our own selves. We are the individuals who have chosen to PAY our US Dollars to purchase access to cable television, satelite radio and the internet. We buy the books, magazines and newspapers. We are the individuals who have chosen to purchase the products advertised on radio, television and in internet ads which support programing that we choose not to listen to, to read about or to watch.
In a country that, not only respects 'freedom of speech', but protects it with its Constitution, I am thankful for all of these "Built-IN Mechanisms" which help us maintain our 'balance'.
If we do not like it: we can turn it down; we can mute it; we can change the station; we can hit the ignore button, we can turn it off, and we can 'not buy it' or we can take a xanax and try to find something worthy of our time and efforts in the morning.
God Bless America, Land of the Free and only slightly impaired...
May We Forever Stand Strong and Proud.....
