Are there any you would trust ;)

Now Rino, THAT'S a great question. Maybe those who believe in the Mc Cann's innocence can tell us what newspaper sources they are willing to believe or accept when we may want to share a piece of info with them. Thanks.

I would trust an Official statement by PLE, or an admission by the parents. I might trust the NY Times or the top British newspaper - not sure which one that is, since it seems we get a lot of quotes from less-than-stellar sources here. I would not trust sleezy tabloids or select titillating tidbits handfed to any news source without Official acknowledgment.

so was robert Murat a suspect - but little has been written about him compared to the mountains of stuff on the mccaans -
He was all over the press in the beginning and was the sole suspect for some length of time. With continued investigations, the McCanns were made suspects and he was taken off the list. So much for the absurd accusation that the police targeted the parents. :hand:

There is a mountain of difference btwn a predator who abducts others kids and parents who do harm to thier own. None of us here - I hope - and most people in the world are not predators and therefore are unable to feel any sympathy or bond with such a person. They are outcasts and societies bottom rung. No one ever suspects for a second they could do the same terrible act.

Most of us are parents or have children close to them that cannot fathom what would make a parent do something like this because we like to believe there is a common ground of decency, love, compassion we all share. Well, it is a fact that parents do kill. Statistics tell us most children are indeed harmed by family members. So actually they are even worse than the stranger predator, and harder to understand. Thats why so many cannot even bring themselves to question the McCanns - if the McCanns could do this, so could anyone. There really is no difference btwn the best and the worst if you only judge whats on the surface.

Robert Murat is still an official Arguido - which can last for up to a year . He hast been taken of a list - granted focus has moved away from him to the Mccaans - but I hardly saw a thread about him

I talked to a lawyer friend who is from Portugual and he said basically they do not list anyone as "a person of interest" they are either an official suspect or a witness. Listing someone as an official suspect only elevates them from witness status but does not presume guilt.

I asked him why they don't have persons of interest and he said that it's just the way it's done there. Much like it used to be here in the US. He also said that the label of "person of interest" only came out in the US after all the lawsuits that were filed against PD's for defamation of character by those who were called "suspect" (which made people assume they were guilty) and were actually innocent.

No, I don't believe they've denied it lately, but one of them did a while back. I don't recall them admitting it either. Is there a link for them admitting drugging the children, one we can trust?

Did they give the children beer in addition to leaving them alone?

They never said they drugged their children. Here is an article which explains where the misinformation stemmed from:-

Some British-Portuguese issues are simply lost in translation. One of the best-read papers in Portugal, the Correio da Manha, ran this headline last Saturday: MADELEINE’S GRANDFATHER ADMITS PARENTS USED SEDATIVES. Well, not exactly. The newspaper’s claim has become popular with the locals in Praia da Luz but is in fact based on inaccurate reporting. Madeleine’s grandfather did indeed tell reporters that the McCanns gave the children Calpol, but Calpol is nothing more than a solution of liquid paracetamol (known as acetaminophen in the United States), marketed specifically for the treatment of children with flu-like symptoms or teething problems. It is one of the most common child medications in Britain, is available over-the-counter at pharmacies and is a common feature in most family medicine cabinets.

The media couldn't even get the gender of the person carrying the little Moroccan girl correct. First they reported she was being carried by her grandfather, then they corrected this and said it was actually her father (sparking posts about man 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬). Today it transpires it was actually her mother who was carrying her.

The only media source which seems to be reliable is the BBC website which seems to take the time to check out the facts before reporting them. Alas, this means they are rarely first with the updates so the misinfomation is already repeated all over the Internet before we discover it's wrong.

I'd also like to point out that the only reason Murat came under suspicion is because of testimony from 4 people- Russell O'Brien, Fiona Payne, Rachael Oldfield and Jane Tanner, all friends of the McCanns, who swore they saw him around the apartments the night Madeleine disappeared.

Not until 4 months after the fact (big red flag in my mind).
Absolutely I agree Colomom but she did verify that kate said "they've taken her" maybe that's why i see her as not in the McCann camp at least.

Ms Pennington as well as two other staff members gave their statements to the portuguese police. I doubt that took 4 months!!!

She might however have waited 4 months to talk to the press.

not quite true - a sky journalist also noticed him as he was always hanging round the area and had echoes of the Soham murderes where Huntley was being helpful - the journalist went to the police

The point is that Murat was made an arguido , he still is an arguido - as that is the system

Murat remains an Arguido because he is now a prime witness for the prosecution having observed the Tapas 9 closely in the days following the "abduction" for which they tried to frame him. Now that he is exonerated, the McCann's have had to resort to the Morocco "sightings" as flimsy evidence of an abduction.

Can you confirm this.....or is it your opinion.

She also changed the timeline somewhat. Her account has a man shouting for Maddy or Gabby or Abby before 10 o'clock. If that is accurate, then the amount of time for the abduction to occur is shortened yet again.

It's not my opinion, I read it, somewhere... It was a statement made by police.
