A view from the inside: observations from our own court observers #2

Mistrial?

No her own attorney arguing in her favor that in case of a sentence of death he doesn't want closed hearings released will not cause a mistrial.

It was just wild hearing him say that out loud just a few feet from her.

Thank you Katiecoolady for the inside court reports.

Did Jodi's Family respond in any shocked way to todays testimony or did it seem they already knew what was gonna happen?

You know I had no view of them and paid them no attention today at all. I was just so focused on Travis' family all week I really didn't even consider them.

I'm pretty neutral on Jodi's family. I don't feel strongly enough about them one way or the other to have passionate feelings. I do feel sorry for her dad though.

To Azlawyer, yes! To Katie, it was weird, she was scribbling, whilst The Bear was standing there, 10 ft away,talking about when she gets sentenced to death!

Hi KCL,

First of all, I Love your reports! Thank you so much for your time and posting them so quickly. You Rock!

My question: Did you notice a reaction from the jury after Jodi got up and did the demo of the "linebacker" lunge? Do you think they caught how she leaned in with her head that the left side is up and right side down, making it impossible to match the forensic evidence? I literally jumped up from the couch and went YES! BOOM DONE

I was so fixated on HER I didn't even really notice them. They were generally very attentive all day but they don't really show distinct "reactions" ya know? I don't know how much they "caught" as honestly many of them are quite far away! And I think so many of them by that point are just over her. They're not even taking notes.

They appear to be adjustable shelves. If you try to step on the front edge of those they will tip and fall forward. Maybe Jodi should have been asked to demonstrate that too on a mock-up shelf.

I might have had a spontaneous orgasm that I wouldn't be faking if they did that. Can I say that in here? It's getting late. lol

Oh, that's good! Maybe someone should send that tip to JM..

I've been just sick over I.S. and Beth. She is such a good reporter. She could have her own show covering trials. HLN should give her a show reporting trials and crime. MOO

I did sign the petition to keep I.S., and I never, ever, ever do those on-line petitions. That's how strongly I feel about losing I.S., and especially Beth.

I will certainly write, thank you for that email addy.

I'm glad to know it all worked out and you'll be on Rikki Lake. I'll be watching when it airs. :)

I like Julie, I found her very interesting and wanted to hear more. Dr. Drew had her on first (I think) and when she mentioned being an intuitive he kind of poo poo'd her story.

I'm going to try and make it to trial a day or two next week.

Yay! Let's coordinate.

Question about the role of Esteban Flores in the courtroom at the prosecutor's table? I realize that probably you only see his back/ back of his head.

Does he pass any notes to JM? Does he take any personal notes?

Does he appear to be assisting JM in keeping evidence photos organized, or in any other way?

Did you notice any reaction from him today, to any part of Jodi's testimony?

~~~~~
Did you notice specifically any reactions from the jurors during Jodi's linebacker/ flying nun demonstration? Were they interested? Or did they look away or look down?
Did Travis' family have any reaction to this?
~~~~~~

Did you notice any reactions from the jury during the 48 Hours clip where she says "No jury will convict me-- mark my words" ? Did they look at her? Look at JM? Look at the video? Did any appear to make notes on this?

Did Travis' family have any reaction to this?

Lmao! :floorlaugh:

They wouldn't necessarily tilt forward just because they are adjustable though. I'm a kitchen designer (cabinets) and we do closets too. It would depend on the clips used. Some are like pins where the shelves rest on them, so they would tip forward. A lot are plastic clips now that the shelf snaps in to. You have to push in a little button thingy (technical term, lol) to lift the shelf out.

I hope that makes sense. His closet looks pretty nice so I doubt he only had the pins.

Ok I just fired off this email...feel free to copy/tweak/share/whatever. It's late but it's something. Time is kind of of the essence here. Please share on any other crime boards you know of. Thanks!

Dear Headline News,

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the news that In Session has been cancelled and Beth Karas will no longer be working with the network.

I've been watching trials with Beth reporting on them for the entire 19 years she's been with Turner Media and Court TV before that. She is by far the best trial reporter they have ever had. She is universally liked and trusted and breaks down trials for viewers making them more understandable and interesting.

Please can't you find a way for her to keep reporting trials on your network?

There are millions of viewers interested in big cases and participating in the legal system by viewing them live on TV. All of the CNN HLN shows are about big trials these days. I understand Nancy Grace has the highest ratings and her show is primarily about trials. This is a huge loss to this viewership. And a huge loss to me personally.

As the surviving sister of a homicide victim and having navigated the legal system for years with our case, I think removing this access to the public is just heartbreaking.

Please reconsider and please find a way to keep Beth Karas covering trials for her thousands and thousands of fans who will suffer a great loss without her professionalism and insights shared.

Thank you for your consideration,

(my name)

Hey KCL, one last thing! Do you think tok DDJK will come back and post her thoughts with us again? Or did we overwhelm her?! Lol

I'll go back and answer questions once I get all my notes out.

So we walked Katie to the trucks and all sat out there talking and I was bound and determined to talk to Beth again about wth is going on with In Session and HLN coverage. Basically she thinks they will still cover the trial BUT thinks it might get cut off in the morning.

I had a really long talk with her. She's so nice. She's one of those people while she's talking to you she's reaching out and touching your hand or arm. I dunno I just really like that but I'm a sucker for affection.

Ok so she really needs our help. I talked to her about starting a "cause" facebook page. She likes the idea. And the CAUSE is to get her to keep covering trials. Somewhere. I don't have a good idea on the perfect title and if anyone out there wants to take on this project, that would be great. She's in to it. I just keep telling her how many fans she has and I don't think she really has any idea. I think we need to mobilize to help her. And there is an email address she gave me to write letters to protest her job loss or try and persuade them to keep her on live trial somehow. She really doesn't know what she's gonna do.

She gave me permission to post her email address here and said she's launching her own FB page in March.

She will be on a CNN show tomorrow night at 10pm est I think. and also Good Morning America early Sat. am 7:30. I gave her so many hugs and we both got tears in our eyes. I go way back with her.

Also I told her and guess I will go on ahead and tell you all, I was contacted by a producer for the Ricki lake show ironically just as I was walking in to court yesterday to ask me to be a guest. I was shocked when I told him I was just walking in the courtroom and he said "for what?". I assumed he contacted me related to my involvement in this trial but not at all. He'd just googled our case and knew a TON about it so asked if he could call me back today and did.

They are doing a show on murder for money and want to highlight my sister's case. This is a near and dear subject for me as I hold the insurance companies complicit with her death. We sued them and lost. It's a HUGE part of our case and if not for them, she'd be alive today and they didn't follow their own checks and balances (in fact "waived" them). Had they make ONE phone call they'd have found out her killer had a prior conviction for insurance fraud and would have never sold the policy. I'm shaking typing this as I feel so strongly about this and it was so unjust for my family. So I agreed to be on the show. They are flying me in March 11 taping the 12th. So...will keep you posted about air dates or whatever. Kind of weird timing as he knew NOTHING about this case even! Very little anyway.

Oh! I had a long talk with Julie Christopher on the sidewalk which was super interesting. I know she bugs a lot of people (the intutive) but this kind of person is in my world and I really found her interesting. She's french and gorgeous. Don't want to go in to details other than I had that encounter.

Ok for Beth:

at HLN write if you want to give them something something as in begging for laying her off:

[email protected]

her email (with permission)

[email protected]

I think direct fan letters would really make her day! Her last day is Monday I think. I'm in total denial. I need to bring her a very special gift!!!

I will write a sort of "form letter" if you want a copy to send HLN. Haven't done so yet so just pm me if you want it...feel free to use it. I think we need to bombard them so they know how many fans she has. Thousand and thousands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:please:

Hi Katie, I already wrote to CNN about Beth and Jean. I will follow any show they are on. They are seasoned and know what they are doing. Can you ask them to join us? The only one who would know it is them is Tricia. They both are such a wealth of info.. I go back to right before Scott P. I'll never forget the boat episode! Tell them we love their coverage. At least I do ..Nore :seeya:

Hey KCL, one last thing! Do you think tok DDJK will come back and post her thoughts with us again? Or did we overwhelm her?! Lol

It came up this evening and I don't know! I don't know if this is her thing. so I didn't push it. :please: lol

snipped respectfully

I found it interesting that she made sure to stae more than once she NEVER touched any shelves. she apparently only placed "the edge" of her foot on 1 shelf and at no time touched any shelves..why? I'm guessing they dusted for prints and there weren't any! AND there was prob accumulated, undisturbed dust there! No way she could reach that high without grabbing a shelf with other hand!! :moo:

Thank you for explaining this...

I wasn't understanding why there was such a focus on JA only using ONE hand to get the gun off the top of the shelf...

Sooooo.... There were no prints on the shelves... So she had to make a story up... Where she only used her foot on one shelf and one hand to grab the gun...

Why didn't she just say she did a backflip and caught the gun from the shelf with her toes? that is almost as believable...

:dunno:
