Best-selling children's author and comedian David Walliams has been dropped by his publisher HarperCollins UK, the company has said.

A spokesman for the publisher said: "After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams."

The Telegraph reported that the decision was made after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards young women.

Yep. It's probably significant that it comes only a few months after the publisher got its first female CEO.

I've read a few articles about Walliams on the Daily Mail website recently. I was surprised at some of the allegations. It's a big deal when a publisher the size of HarperCollins, ends their relationship with an author.

I gather these allegations are long-standing and TBH I'm more surprised that Walliams was able to hang on as long as he did, but once again it seems that blind eyes were turned by both the management of various TV companies and, in this case, by the former CEO of HarperCollins.

Indeed. I wonder if his publishing agent will now drop him and whether his existing books will quietly disappear from the shelves in bookshops. They've been big sellers for quite a number of years but there have also reservations about their quality and content.
