Ads now in threads

I'm not sure where to put this, but many posts are one letter per line. They go all the way to the end of the post and needless to say, I won't read posts one letter at a time. I can't capture a sample but they look like this:

Understand. It was just unclear from your other post whether your actions to resolve this were complete or not. Please keep us updated. I don't want to keep complaining while you are working hard to correct it. WS is just really annoying to try to keep up with right now!

(While trying to post this, I had the ad take over and had to wait for the video to finish to be able to complete the post.)

Since late last night there should be NO video ads at all, obviously that is not the case and I will have to wait until Tuesday to solve that.

You may want to do a hard refresh of your browser, this could solve the problem.(hold ctrl/refresh).

If not there is a work around to stop the auto play of these ads.

Just for the record there are three ads appearing through the ''body'' of this page right now to me in addition to a ''normal'' text box style ad at the top of the page ((which we were used to in past)) along with ads to the right ((about three more))

Thank you for posting this! I have been having this same problem for awhile now. Every first/top post of every page is displayed like this when post is inside quote box. Very frustrating! I have to scroll almost to bottom of screen on each page to get past this first post on each page. Very hard to read when format doesn't display properly.

I am new here and am having trouble navigating this site. Not sure where the appropriate place to post these questions. Where can I look at all the different threads and their responses? I have made a few responses on the Missing persons thread but then cannot find the original posting or my responses. Also is the site always inundated with ads? Thank you for any assistance!

There are scripts that hang my browser up on websleuths- often crashing my browser altogether.
I do not have the problem with any other large sites or bulletin boards I visit.
I believe it's related to certain ads but am having an impossible time debugging it myself since only half of the page will load and there aren't any script errors I can directly pinpoint.
To help tech track this bug, here are some things I've already tried to trouble-shoot:

1. Have logged out, closed browser, cleared all history/cache and local storage. (Problem remains)
2. Have updated flash to latest version (ditto)
3. Have tried viewing the site in Chrome, safari, Firefox and mac and windows (ditto)

The reason I think there may be some kind of ad-related infinite loop or similar is that when the site starts to run slow, my processor goes into overdrive. I've had this happen on both mac laptops (and in parallels running windows/internet explorer) I use for websleuths, and simply exiting websleuths.com and navigating to a different site does not fix the problem- all sites are then slow until I clear history/cache, close the browser, wait a bit, and then visit a few other sites. Visiting websleuths starts the whole slowdown process over again.

I thought you should know since if I'm having the problem I'm sure non-negligible number of other users are as well.

So, I understand that ads are an inevitable part of most websites...but, why am I seeing so many extremely derogatory and pornographic "dating" ads on a website such as this? I even see them on the main page, so they must not be related to the content of any given thread.

A woman should have the right to browse the internet without constantly seeing her entire gender referred to as "sl***" and "wh****".

I thought the vid ads were supposed to be gone. I finally gave up reading last night because of the sound popping up from the video ads. There was one where the person was fairly screaming!

I have managed to block all video plugins on this site. I am using Chrome, other browsers should have similar management techniques to these.

Got to your browser Settings or Preferences. Select the Show Advanced Settings. Open the Content Settings under Privacy:


Find the Plugins section and click Manage Exceptions:


Then create an exception just like what you see in this screenshot:

I just turned my ads off. You still have the blank space, but no ads. Top right corner, advertising, I turn that off.
