Doren Sanford was in Fairbanks, Alaska on August 20, 2020 to look at some property he was interested in purchasing when he vanished. He was last known to be in the area of Airport Road searching for his lost Rottweiler, Groot. Both are missing. Doren, who was 34 at the time, was raised in Tok with his large extended family, and lived in Anchorage where he worked as a heavy equipment operator/laborer.

He had recently started his own business, Sanford Home Repair & Remodel. Lieutenant Jess Carson of the Alaska State Troopers told Dateline in March of 2021 that troopers suspect foul play in Doren’s disappearance and believe they’ve already spoken to people who know what happened to him. In November of 2023, Carson told Dateline that the Alaska State Troopers have conducted at least 15 additional interviews and performed several more searches, employing the use of cadaver dogs and ground penetrating radar to help find Doren. He told Dateline that investigators “haven’t found any viable leads,” though they are hopeful that the Seattle division of the FBI will soon join the case. ...

<<Doren was 34 years old when he was last known to be searching for his missing dog in Fairbanks, Alaska on August 29th, 2020. There has been no activity on his cellphone or bank account since this date. He had been staying with family in Fairbanks at the time to investigate a property he was looking into buying. He had just opened his own business, Sanford Home Repair and Remodel and did past work in Anchorage as a heavy machine operator and laborer.

Doren was last seen walking in the area of Airport Road in Fairbanks in search of his missing Rottweiler Groot. There were community rumors that Groot had been euthanized at a local vet office but the Rottweiler euthanized was described as very violent and Groot had never exhibited violent behavior. Harsh weather halted several attempts to search for Doren. Family believes other community members may hold the information necessary to send him home. 3 other indigenous people went missing from Fairbanks in a matter of 3 months. Doren remains missing and a $10,000 reward is available for information in his case.>>
