That poor family lost another daughter in 2005


"Scary," reacted Tatauq Muma, Abouchuk's niece, Monday. "That's very scary, just something that I can't imagine. I would never think that would happen."

She and other family members described Abouchuk as a kind and loving woman who enjoyed life, even though she didn't have a home to call her own.

"She did tell me that she liked being homeless the last time I saw her," Muma said.

When she disappeared, Muma said the family was worried about her, but hoping for a better outcome. Now that they have some answers about what happened to her, she said there are even more unanswered questions.

"Why did he do it?" she wants to know.

Muma doesn't believe the family has heard the last of Smith's crimes.

It's also not their first time grieving the loss of a loved one to violence. Martha Toms was Abouchuk's sister. She was killed in 2005.

According to the Anchorage Crime Stoppers website:

"On September 22, 2005, Toms was found underneath a picnic table in Lyons Park in Mountain View. She was beaten severely, but still alive. Toms was transported to a local hospital where she died a short time later."

BSS's fb is still accessible. He has such a common last name, but I think he still has family in South Africa. He did have a past life before moving to Alaska only five years ago. I seriously doubt he started killing women recently. The guy had it made -- living a nice life with his loving wife and all his tech toys...why'd he have to...

Veronica's sister, Martha Toms, beaten to death in 2005. That is really sad. This one family has had so much sorrow. What the heck is happening up there with women being brutally beaten to death and found under picnic tables?

I was trying to find more missing women in that area on the Crime Stoppers site, but oddly there aren't that many listed there. LE should know and I hope they are taking their investigations seriously.

Does anyone know when BSS is due back in court? I wonder if his wife is not going to wake up, and is going to visit him on a steady basis despite his horrible crimes because of his "dark place". Please lady, find a therapist.

Veronica Abouchuk's family mourns her loss. BSS is facing all those felony charges. He has a Public Defender. LE has all those memory cards, etc., to go through. Will LE find other victims of his?

Thanks for that. I really wish they would include the date of the interview. I’m guessing it was last Wednesday before she went to see him on that Thursday because after that is when he confessed and the news of Veronica broke.

She should make sure the cops get those other memory cards. As much as she says he was a good husband and did things for her I don’t get the impression he was that into her from that kiss - it doesn’t seem too genuine. I also didn’t see him too engaged on her FB page. I was right about that they met online.

It’s definitely creepy the way he used the GoPro to film them in the water. Same GoPro I’m sure he used to film the murder. She said he liked to travel around a lot and the cops knew he was cheating on her.

I’ll just keep checking back here for when the next bit of news comes out. Still wanna know about that memory card and the other investigation...

So heartbreaking to hear family state “ she liked being homeless”:
Feel she might have stated that to relieve the fears, or concern, of family members...
For sure this victim was aware, how susceptible homeless people are, for sex assaults, violence, and murder...
America must do more for the Native American people that are targeted, murdered, and raped at higher rates than the general population...
The Native Americans are the ancestors of American Holocaust (genocide) survivors...
They should get whatever housing, basic needs, and law enforcement protection they need... IMO

He did seem to have it made. He liked the outdoors, seemed to have freedom and a doting wife, man toys, and a nice house/neighborhood. Didn't appear to want for anything.
It's mind boggling.

We're both asking the big question -- WHY?

He's older and should have had more control over his urges. He's older to have just started killing. That's what concerns me. Is killing a habit from his past? A year or so ago, he killed Veronica, but apparently didn't have enough remorse to stop himself from killing Kathleen this year. Kathleen, a brutal killing, horrible, went on days, and on video.

He told his wife he owned some kind of hotel before? I got a feeling his wife adored him. There's an age difference, but IMO she's quite attractive and accomplished in her own right and probably not desperate. He probably love bombed her and he may have used her from day one. She really trusted him. He threw his own easy life away. I can only conclude he was driven to kill and there's probably more victims.

ETA -- Or maybe he's done this many times before, but never got caught before and didn't think he'd ever get caught.

I didn't know about his answer on the 7th. He seemed to have a cavalier attitude, considering he had just killed someone?!

I don't know if the $500,000 financial sponsor has to just sign papers or actually place money in an account. I know some countries require a certain amount of income before you can move there. What a relief if marriage would satisfy immigration demands.

While you're checking out February 1, you might notice the saddest event in his family tree. It is well worth reading that. No more for me. In general, he must have bent his wife's ear and bored her about all that racial knowledge daily.

I agree about him “love bombing” his USA wife... He was probably a cunning con man, who had to hold it together, in order to manipulate her into marriage...
She is lucky she did not become a victim...
This marriage provided an apparent new hunting ground, and allowed him to cmamaflague his savage instincts; with a wife, home, travel, and funds...
As a women that has done online dating; there are tons of guys from outside the USA, married men and/or criminals...
They communicate in a very manipulative manner, and have their cons lines set ahead of time... They send long love letters about how they have been looking for me for years...
I never meet them... Although they want to travel to Florida to meet me and stay with me...
Fortunately, I had worked for years, with a state forensic unit, participating in evaluations, and observations, with many psychopaths ...
I was familiar with the con artists, and the quick manipulative techniques they employ...
The attempts to love bomb strange females by manipulating them for sex, finances, and or housing... The criminals I encountered frequently succeeded: It is a numbers game to them...
I do not date anyone without a complete background check...
Too many criminals are running around looking for Sugar Mamas... IMO

I read a lot of his posts on that site but I don't think I read as far as you did. His posts were very revealing. I want to go back and read more again too. Do you have the link to that site handy? If not, I can look for it up thread.

I hope i'm not breaking the rules with this. I think he was on someone's radar. A guy who seems to know him well and who even said in public that "BSS conned him" back in SA. Apparently he had an investigation going on?
