he's been in the army, according to his comment on a Jan.4/15 post
he got married May 17/2014 (engaged July 2013)(first met in 2013)
That gives them less than 7 months of getting to know each other before the engagement. Sucks to be her. I’d be wanting to jump off a cliff after finding out I married that kind of guy and got him citizenship to this country. Especially if she’s a border agent and prides herself on being a good judge of character or having a keen sense for deception. It may take her a bit to wrap her head around what just happened. When she figures it out though she may go full throttle in taking him down.

BBM. I agree.

This is only my opinion, but here's one of my theories about the SD card. I think he may have made a copy of that SD card. One was for himself. He may have made a copy for someone else.

I think the twisted sickos that film sadistic torture and murder also trade and sell it amongst a very small group of other sickos such as themselves.

I think those who film themselves also like others to watch their work. There are other sickos out there that don't actually want to torture and murder, they just want to watch it. This is very sick stuff, unfortunately, there is a market for it.

Maybe selling it on an SD card and mailing it to another weirdo was less risky than transmitting it over the internet.

Maybe it fell out of someone else's pocket. Because it doesn't seem like he, himself would have been so careless.

I also agree this disgusting freak had done this before. He probably had quite a collection of his own acts as well as what he collected from others. Who knows what price this filth goes for.

Ok, I've completely freaked myself out thinking about and typing this. I feel skievy. I'm off to watch a few hours of kitten and puppy videos over on YouTube.

All JMO.

It’s amazing though the woman who thought to bring it home and look into it. She even provided theories as to where it occurred. And good on which ever cop recognized the voice. Otherwise too much time may have passed making it harder.

Check this article out, it has a lot more detail of the conversations with the wife -

A hotel murder, the video, and unanswered questions

“She said they didn't say outright what was going on, and instead asked her a series of questions. Things like, was she procuring girls for Smith? Had she traveled alone on specific dates? Had she ever sat in a parked vehicle at Mountain View Lions Park with her husband?”

"It seems to me they've been looking at him a long time," she told KTUU.

“Some aspects of the case don't make much sense to her. Among them, why did a memory card get found the day they left for vacation? Also curious to her, she said, is the labeling on the SD card - "homicide at midtown Mariott."

“It wasn't unusual for her husband to have numerous SD cards lying around from cameras and other equipment he'd tinker with and sell. Never, she said, did she see any of them labeled. “

“On September 7th, one day after the last time-stamp on the images from the SD card, a computer, screen, and drone were placed for sale on Facebook Marketplace under Brian Smith's profile. “

“Then, sometime later in the month, but before Smith's September 21st naturalization ceremony, Bissland said Smith reported his vehicle had been vandalized. It happened while he was at work at the Mariott Suites near University Lake, she said, explaining that a passenger-side window in his truck been broken. His wallet, important documents, and a briefcase with phones and other electronics, including a Go-Pro, had been taken. Smith, Bissland said, made a police report. “

W@@!!! What a horrible story. Killing a wonderful woman, recording it....Snuff movie....I'm glad the card was found and he was caught, before he could leave the country and harm other women. And his wife...may she burn with him in hell for eternity. Investigators had him on their radar before....maybe he killed already other women. I wan't to know all about this guy.

Well, technically (according to TOS), unless it's proven she was directly involved, she's just as much of a victim of this man - just in a different way. It may be hard for us to wrap our brains around a woman who defends her depraved, pervert, killer husband, but obviously part of the reaction for a spouse hearing this kind of earth-shattering news, would be denial. I suspect eventually, the wife may come to realize she married a monster. I hope she has access to some real good therapy to help her deal with what that means.

Is the Mariott Suites where BSS "was at work" the same where the murder took place?

If it is the same Mariott hotel, perhaps it explains how he managed to walk unnoticed through the lobby (or staff areas) and parking lot with a dead body.
I don't understand how no one heard her screaming! How no one heard him yelling at her to die..
So very sad!

to be fair, they could've 'met' online prior to that and been skyping etc. and perhaps that was the date they first met in person

I mean you would also think they would have gotten some on camera or remembered him if he worked there.

Def ‘tinkered’ with recording devices and electronics. Seemed to sell them after they were used too. Curious about his truck break in. She said he never labeled anything...

It’s not to criticize, just an observation that he rushed into a marriage and out of his home country.

I know. I just wanted to mention that possibility.

I can't wait till LE finds some of those "numerous SD cards". I wonder what is on them. This may be the tip of a huge iceberg.

If I was a killer and kept SD cards they wouldn’t be labeled like his was. I personally think maybe someone found d the videos on his computer and burned them to a card to intentionally drop somewhere that it would be found. Carrying around an SD card labeled “Homicide” and where it took place is just too risky. I would probably simply put a date or a key word that reminded me of the victim. All it would take to be caught is a cop checking your pockets with the card labeled the way it was.
I think that SD card was meant to be found and possibly “dropped” by someone close to him, maybe even the wife who now feels guilty enough to stand by himEdited to say that after reading the above article that someone shared where wife says cat was broken into at Marriott, I have to assume whoever broke into the car is who labeled and “dropped” the card.

Well his truck had apparently been robbed just before the SD card was found and a GoPro was in it so maybe one of the thieves labeled it for someone to find?

I was thinking about how if Kathleen scratched at Brian’s wrists then maybe they will find additional evidence with the DNA.

No I don’t want to work today :-)

It's not only women standing by their murdering men either.

I've seen many cases on the true crime channels involving serial killing black widows, and other females who have brutally murdered, and their man will stand by them.

Some even knew about their evil deeds, and knew they had husbands dropping like flies.

Or knew they had many children who suddenly all were dying when in the care only of their moms every time.

Yet the men still married them with some of them winding up victims themselves or went onto have more children with them even those children also wound up being murdered by their mothers.

Of course there have been several cases where after the females were arrested, and sent to prison for the murders, the men in their lives continued to stand by them.

Evil is never gender specific nor is it only females who fall for all the deceit, manipulation games, and lies.

Maybe something happened (that put fear in him) and he pulled the sd card out quickly so he wouldn't get caught with it. But when putting it somewhere else, he unknowingly dropped it.

I think the wife is still in denial because the videos don't show his face. He was recognised by his voice and I presume LE have not shared the audio with her. So she assumes this is all a mistake and it's not his voice, and it's not him. Tbh I would think the same if such horrendous accusations were made against my husband with the only proof being that an officer thinks it's my husband's voice on a snuff tape.

I wouldn't want to be in her shoes right now ... horrendous!

I wonder whether someone else was in that hotel room - it can't be easy to strangle a conscious, struggling person with one hand. Or was it filmed with a GoPro? OMG this is just so terrible to think about :( Poor sweet woman!

ETA: I agree with others here, they will probably find other victims ... This doesn't sound like a first murder.
