Brother dead, sister missing in search along Juneau’s Lemon Creek

Juneau police say a local man's body found Sunday along Lemon Creek has prompted a search for his sister after authorities discovered a campsite apparently belonging to them.

From Los's link it sounds like they may have both drowned due to recent flooding in the area: A U.S. Geological Survey hydrologist told searchers Monday that the melting contributed to fast currents in the creek, which apparently carried George Young's body about a mile downstream from the campsite.

Authorities launched a massive search — by ground with canines and handlers, by air in a Temsco helicopter and by water in jet boats — for the 36-year-old woman after her brother George Benjamin Young, 40, was found dead Sunday afternoon.

Juneau Police Department spokesman Lt. David Campbell said a passerby found George’s body lying face down in Lemon Creek while driving along the Egan Drive bridge around 4 p.m. Sunday. Police believe the two siblings were together on the banks of Lemon Creek near Glacier Highway when George’s body was taken by the water’s current.

Kristina Young's body was located Tuesday along the beach of North Douglas Highway, police said. She had signs of "exposure to the elements," but there were no indicators of foul play.
