Wow, that sure fills in a LOT of missing holes doesn't it???

My heart and prayers go out to Samantha's friends and family. God only knows what her poor father has gone through.

geez. this is just so sad. he really didnt HAVE to kill her if he was going to collect the money and take off anyway... what did he gain by killing her?? i'm so incredibly disgusted.

  • #704
WOW. Absolutely sickening. He went to Las Vegas- is this a gambling addiction? If this was for money, why didn't he take money from the coffee stand? Or do we not know that?

I am physically ill knowing he killed her on the 2nd. Which means she was alive and terrfied for at least 4 hours. And to know she was alive when people were searching for her.... ugh.... there are no words.

Now one more thing...how did they know to look for her in the lake I wonder?

  • #706
Actually it says he went to Houston on the 2nd.

  • #707
So he killed her for a whopping $2400 dollars? Much of that had to pay for his travel costs to Texas twice i'm sure. Did he really profit anything from murdering her? So sad and so incredibly stupid.

IMO he obviously talked. They called the FBI dive squad and request they come to AK, before they got the shed. I would guess they took the death penalty off the table and he was in so much trouble, he made a little deal to give up the location, etc. especially now, sinec they state she was killed on the 2nd. they couldn't know that... added together, he squealed.

I had drawn a "circle" around Anc as to possible places to dispose of a body between the abduction and the truck atm theft, and the ealry morning flight to houston.

that Lake and area is just outside the distance I had, especially since he had to use an auger etc.

IMO i can only conclude that the shed was the cold storage while Ik was on vacation in TX with his GF and child.

She was dead before that. He would have known that night SK, DT or JK had no money.

IMO, the murder thing was not planned. IMO a robbery turned into a CYA homicide at some point.

What still doesn't make sense is why, on the early morning of the 3rd, when JK or DT saw someone breaking into the truck, why wasn't 911 called then.. and why wasn't Sam reported missing THEN?

Maybe IK had contacted them and demanded ransom and told them not to call police? It explains Duane's story about being late to pick her up and his "stumble" in that first interview (saying he went to pick THEM up, instead of HER)..

Wow, I am shocked that he walked her across Tudor to the Home Depot parking lot. Tudor is a very busy street. Even in the middle of winter, even in the middle of a snowstorm, there would have been plenty of cars on that road. It's shocking that he could pull that off and truly sad that Samantha didn't try to get away.

Bear in mind I am not blaming Samantha at all, but this should serve as a valuable lesson for anyone in a kidnapping situation. GET AWAY IF YOU CAN!

But the indictment says:
On or about February 24, 2012, KEYES sent a text message using
Samantha Koenig’s cellular telephone for the purpose of demanding ransom money.
KEYES directed that the ransom money be deposited in the bank account connected with
the Credit Union 1 VISA debit card

So what did he do.. see that a reward fund was growing and decide THEN to ask for ransom? Or had that been his plan from the beginning??
Still doesn't make sense to me.

federal officials say money from the reward funds to find Koenig was used to make ransom payments, which Keyes received by making several withdrawals from the debit card's account

And so many people talked about her Father and the use of some of the reward money :(

I was one of them and I feel awful about it. I will try very hard not to jump to conclusions in cases like this in the future. :(

Thanks for all the updates. Wasn't the car break-in about 3am? What happened from 8pm to 3am? Seven hours. Sam was still alive since she gave him the PIN. The car was parked near her home?

Besides the other obvious reasons, this guy was an idiot to use her phone. LE must have been tracking it's use.

I think they may have been acquainted prior to the kidnapping. Just a feeling. MOO

I also was one of them, and I too feel terrible. However, JK came out in the media and said he was using the funds for personal expenses. He could have just kept quiet, IMO, and no one would be the wiser.

I don't think ransom was his plan from the beginning.

My guess is that he was incredibly stupid and thought that if he abducted her maybe he could get a little more cash by making her get debit cards, etc. Clearly that is not worth murdering someone over but maybe he was really desperate or nuts or hopped up on drugs or something.

I suppose another possibility is that there is a not-yet disclosed reason for the original kidnapping, such as that it was done for hire by someone else. Then it got too hot and he figured he needed to get away forever, could get more money to do that through a ransom.

Or as much as I hate to say it, it could still be a sexual assault thing. Just because sexual assault hasn't been charged yet doesn't mean it won't be added later. Anyway I don't want to speculate too much since that didn't go so well for me earlier in this case.

In the very beginning JK made it quite clear he would give the kidnapper anything he wanted, no questions asked, if he release SK unharmed. JK even mentioned that he would help him leave the state. I feel sorry for JK, because this had to be a horrible ordeal for him to have to deal with. Can you imagine receiving text messages for ransom? If SK's phone was still in operation I'm surprised they didn't pick on the GPS on the phone sooner, but then again maybe they did.

I am very relieved that LE was able to get so much detail, apparently from the suspect, but wherever they got it, they have it.

It is so sickening...the details are almost worst than not knowing, in a way...but at least she was not left out there, never to be found.

I would say that the APD and the FBI did a great job with this case, even though there were a lot of us, including myself, who had doubts there for awhile. They brought SK home even though it wasn't a happy ending. Many thanks to the APD, FBI, and all the agencies that were involved to bring an end to this horrible situation.
