I am not sure the make and model of her cell phone and I do not believe it has been released. I believe APD/FBI are keeping quite a bit of information private.
AK81- As far as that goes, if it was way in the beginning it may have been on the first Find Samantha Page? If so then that was not run by anyone related to the family nor did they post information or updated information when they had been told.
Maybe the clothing was missed. Not sure why your question did not get answered. We know that she was wearing a Green Jersey, Black Leggings, and black boots with fur trim, also a tan coat with fur trim.
I know alot of things seem strange. Many unanswered questions. I just hope that when Samantha gets home maybe the actions of APD/FBI will make more sense to us all. As far as why not release the video and everything else. I do not understand it all either. I just pray and think they have their reasons and to us come time it will make sense.

Hi isamom. I can relate to what ak81 is saying bc some stuff is still questionable ... For instance: Why weren't her piercings noted on her Missing posters? Why wasnt the description of the boots thoroughly stated, ie height & length? I read they were knee high boots but that isn't given. What about a heel? Style? Brand? Why were all of the pictures of Sam provided for her Missing poster shown with blondish very light brown hair but then we find out that her hair was dark brown when she went missing? The discrepancy in her height & weight, why? There's a huge difference between 5'4 & 5'5 at 140, something like height & weight is very important & should be as close to exact as possible. Could you maybe be able to provide the full correct info? Also, what is the last grade of school that Sam completed, I'm wondering why that hasn't been released as well. Sex offenders & gangs are abundant in the immediate area where Sam resided. Did her family interact with any, even if unbeknownst to them? Were there any tags or stickers left at the scene of Sam's last known whereabouts?

One inch is a huge difference in height??
As for the weight, that can vary every day, and body build matters more than actual pounds. Some have smaller, less dense bones so they may look heavy with that much weight, while a person with bigger bones can carry that weight very well and actually look like they weigh less than they do.

No TxLady2, 1" is not a huge difference BUT the weight to height ratio is a very huge difference. She's 18, not 35-45 with a kid. She's a teenager. Also, a 20 pound difference is not a daily fluctuation of weight, 5 pounds would be but not 20. For instance 5'4 at 140 would still be in the normal range for bmi but on the end of the normal range heading toward overweight or risk based on her age. 160 would definitely be pushing it. The reason the correct height & weight should be given is bc it of course would be easier go identify her if one crosses her path. Nothing to do with bones, I'm just talking proper bmi from the middle point of the acceptable range to the iffy part or end point of that range.

Here, this is from the CDC:

BMI calculator for child & teen up to 19. 20+ would use adult.
http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/

5'4 at 160 would be overweight but 140 would be at the high border range (still healthy but showing risk) of acceptable.

Further to my last post, the picture from last Christmas shows a considerable difference in her face compared to the pictures released on her Missing poster. Christmas she looks heavier. So which is it? It was said that the pic showing her in the pinkish shirt was the most recent but how could it be with the considerable difference in appearance in such a short time? I'm wondering if the Christmas picture (the one showing Sam in a Santa hat) is actually the most recent.

TxLady, this is what I'm trying to say, look at the considerable difference in her appearance. She's still adorable but her pictures (when considering weight) look alot different...

Did they put Sam's birthdate on her Missing poster yet?

I just don't get why they are still raising money for a reward fund. At this point, I think that money would be better spent on searches and a good PI. What happens to that money when nobody ever comes forward? They still post on her Help Find fb page as if they are waiting for "the person in the know" to spill the beans so they can take the money and go, but they are offering it for info that brings her back alive. What if someone knows something, and that involves the fact that she is deceased? Kinda takes the reward money right off the table, and they lose their motivation, no? Nevermind the fact that anyone that KNOWS anything is probably involved, and I don't think they could collect on the reward either.

I don't see that much difference. For one, I can't see her body, just from midchest up in the smaller pic. As for her face looking fuller in one or the other, that doesn't tell me much either. Pictures are deceiving.
I appreciate you gathering all those statistics but I don't know a whole lot about bmi and all that other stuff. I just know that unless she was weighed the same day she disappeared, who would know her exact weight? Or height, for that matter. A lot of people aren't good at estimating weight or height.
That said, people are not going to be trying to estimate her size when they see someone they think might be her... they're going to be looking at facial features. Nobody is going to think, "Oh, that can't be her because this person looks about 20 lbs heavier or a couple inches taller."

The reward should be for information leading to the conviction of the individual(s) responsible for her abduction.

I see they updated that story you linked, it no longer says "alive" if it did before. Now it says "safe return"

I guess if she ends up being found dead are they then going to change it to information leading to those responsible for her death?

Someone in the comments section of that article is wondering why searches are not being performed too. That might be because LE knows were she is or because there is several feet of snow and will likely have to wait until the snow melts before conducting any searches. My guess is the snow.

Personally I don't think LE has a clue as to what happen to her or where she is. But if Sam's family was maybe more high profile LE would have found her by now. Makes you wonder if Sam was one of Palin's or Obama's daughters if LE or the FBI would have found her after a month? I bet they would have.

I'm still wondering what LE learned about where Sam's phone pinged when called by her father before it went dead. Even in Karen Swifts case LE said her phones last know location was close to the river. Her body was found a month later not far from where LE was searching the river. I always thought it would be best to look in that direction even though her car was found in the other direction from her house. Whether the phone information helped to find her I doubt it, but it didn't hurt anything either.

It is really hard for me to understand why there are no searches going on.
That being said, my family says they have more snow in Anchorage this year than they have in a really long time. That could very well be the issue for searching.

  • #353
I think the issue with searches is first there was many searches in the beginning. Anchorage is so big, not to mention if she was taken out of Anchorage no one knows. It is hard to plan a search when there is no direction or idea on where to search.
I mean besides setting it up to go door to door and check everyones house where should the search begin?
We need to find who is responsible in order to find what direction to go. I think that everyone is believing she is still alive at this point and there is no evidence to prove otherwise. Therefor most likely she is in a house or cabin or something. Someone has her hidden somewhere.
The reward fund is something that the community and people from all over have contributed too. I guess you never know what might entice a person to finally speak up. It is trying every avenue to get her home. I would do the same. It is the hope that maybe it will help or maybe someone will say something.
More then likely someone does know something. As far as her height and weight, She is 5'5 and weighs 140. That is as close as I believe anyone knows. I mean my weight changes frequently by 5 pounds at least, unless she were to have gotten a physical that day or recently then you cant be exact on that.
I think that the photos are put out there so people can get a good idea on her. Some are older but some are posted from her friends that just want to get her face out there. She does look different in some, but like myself my hair was brown Friday and got it blonde Friday afternoon.. lol.
She has brown shoulder length hair as of now. She has a few recent pictures. On the FB site. I would have to look through and tell you which one was the most recent.
I think the biggest thing everyone needs to concentrate on his first keeping up the hope she is still alive. Hope someone will leave a tip or have enough courgae to speak up and at least share who may be involved and figuring out who is responsible and where she is. We all know what she looks like. The support from everyone from all around the world has been a huge blessing. Just keep praying she is found and gets home safe.

Those 2 pics do not even look like the same girl. Her hair is even parted on a different side in each pic. I agree that an accurate description of weight & height is VITAL in missing persons cases. Especially when weight can change your appearance so drastically, even 10-20 lbs can make you look totally different.

I can understand the police not releasing the whole video, what I don't understand is why not release a couple of still shots of the guy. SOMEONE would recognise them - their clothes, their look, their demeanor ... there is something very weird about the cops up there and how they are handling everything.
Tainting the jury is a load of codswallop. I don't understand why the media have not requested a copy under the freedom of information act. It wouldn't fly in a court or at the attorney Generals office to protect a jury - meanwhile the child is still missing.

I agree, tainting the jury is a load of codswallop. Either the video shows nothing of possible value, or alternatively the police know exactly who is in the video and cannot release it for that reason.

The anchorage police are VERY closed mouthed, they do not leak anything ever. I remember a case a few years ago where a teenager disappeared. the first article in the paper quoted her boyfriend as Saying she had gone to visit "Brandon". We never heard anything about that in any future articles nor did the police release any suspect info. But later it turns out that Brandon was a friend, and he had killed her and the police had just scooped him up on unrelated charges to keep him safe while they put together the murder case. So I keep wondering of something like that is going on here.

Just my 2 cents.. if I was working all alone at night... let alone in a little hut in the middle of a parking lot... I would have my phone on me at all times... plus this doesn't strike me as the type of place where the girls would get in trouble for having their phone with them. And if she had already been communicating with her dad and bf that night via phone, I doubt she put it away, out of sight.

While i hear lots of people talk about gangs and violence in anchorage, really its the safest place I have ever lived. I have never hesitated to walk alone at night, even in the seedier neighborhoods of town. I don't think most of us perceive this place as anything but safe and friendly. And THAT is why Samantha's abduction has people incredibly disturbed.

I know it is not Anchorage, but when DH and I visited Juneau, the tour guide told us there are only 3 ways to enter Juneau:...boat, plane, and birth canal! :seeya:

But this makes me think that maybe pilot's licenses are fairly common.

Very common.

But you can easily drive out of anchorage, dump a body 15 miles away and it won't be found until spring, as we discovered in the Mindy Schloss case. they didn't even bother looking until spring.

Where would we even begin to search? And with the feet of snow we have had since the abduction, what good would it do? If she is deceased, I doubt her body is in the bowl (anchorage area, sorry ) anyway.

The facial features are the same. Hairstyles change with young women. Even hair color can change from one day to the next.
Yes, height and weight should be given as accurately as possible, but that's not the point I was trying to make. It would be impossible to determine exactly what she weighed at the time she was abducted.
You could have a roomful of people and parade two identical twins in front of them and ask each person to guess their height and weight. I guarantee you the range difference would astound you. If she was an average built young woman, not overweight or underweight, then everybody is going to be looking for a person who LOOKS like her... they're not going to be trying to figure out if she weighs 120 or 140, or is 5'4" or 5'5".

BBM

I would start where ever her cell phone lasted pinged.

BUT since I don't think any searches have been organized, conducted or assisted with by LE I think they either don't know where to look, know it would be a waste of time to look until the snow melts, they already know she is not where her phone last was or don't want to give out the information they know where the phone was last known to ping so people might start looking there.

It is almost like LE doesn't want anyone out searching for her. Why wouldn't they say something like "The night she was abducted her phone pinged in the general area of so and so or We know she or at least her phone might of traveled north out of the city by the information we gathered from her phone records"

This has to be the strangest case I have ever followed.

You got dad threatening to unleash on I guess the people or person he thinks is responsible, but we don't know who that is. LE not saying a word except that it might taint a jury if they were to release the video. No one doing any kind of searching that I know of. The only thing I see is everyone trying to see how high they can get the reward fund, but it is not really clearly spelled out how the reward will be paid out if she is located. And a bunch of goings on over on fb that I would rather not care to try and keep up on.

Of course JMO

Back to being confused by this whole mess.
