Is ADN not even reporting this??

It was later last night that the news was released. They know if it is or isn't Samantha. No news until after autopsy is just as ridiculous as every thing else that department does.

Remains found up there would not have weatherd like remains in other states.

They usually advise JK of anything an hour before the news goes public.

The fact that they aren't saying makes me wonder if it is in fact, Sam. Seems a little far from Anchorage for someone to have left her, so I'm hopeful it's not, but fearful it is.

I agree with you Gut. They know. Aside from animal involvement, it's unlikely that decomp would even be a factor in Alaska at this time of year. Everything is frozen. If it's NOT her, wouldn't they rule that out quickly ??? :banghead:

Anchorage Police say they will not be making any assumptions about the identity of the remains until the exam is complete

The use of the word assumptions makes me think they think they know (or know they know) who this is, but do not want the info out there until a formal autopsy so they have as much info as possible to release. That makes me think this may be her :(

The article also says they couldn't tell the gender. So if true, the remains may have been there longer than SK would and that leads them to "assume" it's not her but they don't want to confirm that until they're sure.

Is there much wildlife in the area? Animals might make identification harder :(

I hope its not her.

Do I have the wrong place? on mapquest it is a 30 minute drive from Anchorage.

That snow up there would be packed though, wouldn't animals have a hard time digging? I guess the remains may have been put there recently though.

Wildlife

Moose, muskrats and waterfowl may be spotted near the lakeshore. Brown and black bears, wolves, and mountain goats, inhabit the wilderness regions of the park and Dall sheep are often seen on the steep hillsides. A rock face at mile 1 of the Lakeside Trail is a spring lambing area and a particularly good place to see sheep year-round.

Smaller mammals living in the area include fox, lynx, porcupine, hare, ground squirrel, ermine, marmot, vole, and pika. Golden eagles, hawks, ptarmigan, grouse and several varieties of songbirds nest in the area.

Most of those animals are herbivores no?

@GutFeeling, I'm sure you have the right place, someone else put an hour from anchorage, but its realistically like 40 mins or so to the lake. It is starting to melt during the day. It's melting during the day, freezing at night. I've never been to the lake in the winter, so don't know if it get much wind, which can blow a lot of the snow away

Yes, this is the right place...and I disagree with the earlier post that thought it seemed far away...IMO a person with a body would be quite likely to head someplace like this-- outside the Anchorage bowl, secluded (not too many live there) and road access... I am surprised they haven't already looked that if that is the case... Ugg.

Eklutna is beautiful.. we camp & canoe there every summer.
Since they're saying the body was found by a snow-shoer, I'm guessing it would've been near the parking lot right by the lake. There is a small road for bikes and 4-wheelers that runs along the lake, about 10 miles, so I would guess the body was found near the beginning of that road, near the small creek next to the parking lot. Just my thoughts..

Not being able to tell the gender is a bit far fetched too. You can do that pretty confidently with just a skull.

I guess though, giving them the benefit of the doubt, that Samantha is not the only missing person. JK is not the only one praying this is not his loved one.

Missing page has gone very quiet after a thank you for prayers.

didn't someone post info on IK having some relations (possibly done jobs) for an Indian Reservation? I saw someone upthread recently post something about this area the remains were discovered in maybe belonging to a tribe?

please correct me if im wrong. my mind has been stuck on the Hailey Dunn situation all morning. thank you!

I think an article said mile 7 on the road to the lake, that's still miles from the actual lake.

Most of the land leading to the lake is owned by the eklutna tribe, a native Alaskan tribe, one of the smaller tribes, I believe (could be wrong about that)
