For those asking, Hutchinson St is within walking distance to ASU, a few blocks and just on the other side of I-85 to the west of the campus. You could walk under the interstate overpass. Speculation that it seems it was a robbery for his cash and a quick disposal. Very sad and very unnecessary, as these crimes always are.

A local MSM report of an armed robbery after 1am on Sept 14 on another college campus a few miles north of ASU, also in Montgomery. The victim reported three males in a white Nissan car. Hopefully this is not a related incident, but theft for cash does seem a motivator.

Toya Cohill had been searching for her son, 22-year-old Adam Dowdell, for nearly a week yet she said she held out hope for a better ending. "I’m not good,'' Cohill told AL.com Tuesday. “I’m not good at all.”

Dowdell’s body was discovered Monday afternoon, six days after he vanished. Central Alabama Crime Stoppers on Tuesday announced a reward starting at $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the student’s death.

Healing thoughts sent to his mother, other family, and friends. She should not be good; it is completely shattering. The rain is drenching Montgomery today as Sally treks eastward. I hope it does not deter any investigation into Mr. Dowdell’s death.

What do you think happened?

I think that the "friend" was supposed to be a connection for making a cash purchase and either robbed and murdered him or set him up to be robbed and murdered. This is a very common modus operandi that often goes unreported.

Suspect is a "poster child" for a youth boxing program, high school valedictorian on a full ride to ASU. Interesting.

•family is unable to track Dowdell’s phone because its location setting was turned off and the device is dead
•it’s unusual for Dowdell to go days without speaking to relatives; mom states he talks to relatives daily
•Campus police have since opened an “active, ongoing” investigation into his disappearance
•friends and family were passing out fliers on Friday until shots were fired at them

As of August 17th, there were 43 homicide victims for the year of 2020 in Montgomery. The 43rd was a 13 year old girl. Gun violence appears the most prominent form.

I, too, found it concerning that those trying to post flyers for Adam were shot at, but with my knowledge of the area it should not have alarmed me. Were people purposely trying to thwart any efforts to find Belle or was it just unconnected violent acts? I am very saddened by the suspect’s choices, as he had so much ahead of him in life and had endured a lot of pain. Now he’s caused much pain and life will never be as bright as it once was for many.

“The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown however, Hall was identified as the suspect. There is no additional information available for release in connection to this continuing investigation,” according to the police statement.

On Thursday night, hundreds gathered at Alabaster’s Buck Creek Park for a candlelight vigil for Dowdell, during which time Cohill hinted that progress had been made in the case and that it was someone who her son seemingly knew. The grieving mother addressed the large crowd, especially the younger people, telling them to stay focused and be careful who they trust.

"Make sure the person you call your friend is really your friend,'' Cohill said. “Be cautious on who you call your friend. Everybody that smiles in your face is not your friend. You have to limit yourself, limit the people who know your A to your Z.”
