What if she ran away and was hit by a car while on foot... just throwing out scenarios other than those already posed.

Re self harm: if that was the case, why not disclose?
Even if the COD is obvious, they would still be awaiting the medical examiner‘s autopsy results.

Do they do that or do they just go radio silent to protect the family?

It seems like they could infer... "apparent self inflicted" or "No threat to community" or "tragic death, but no further criminal investigation"

Oh no, I see that was made on "Musical.ly" which is now the same company as the "TikTok" app: Musical.ly - Wikipedia

There have been recent warnings about that app being used by predators:

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Social media experts are warning parents about a popular app that sexual predators could also be utilizing. The app is called TikTok and it’s one of the world’s most downloaded apps.

With TikTok, kids can make short 15-second videos with special effects and filters. They can make videos of themselves dancing, lip-syncing and pulling pranks, then share it with friends. Sounds innocent enough, right? But with 500 million global monthly users, experts say there’s a large community of child predators on this app searching for their next victim, leaving many parents concerned the app has become a “hunting ground” for pedophiles. Social media experts say it’s so popular especially for young people because it gives the user a lot of creative freedom.

The app states it’s rated for children ages 12 and up and describes itself as a way for users to capture "funny and memorable moments to share with the world.” One of the main issues with TikTok is when kids sign up to use the app, the default setting is set to public, which means anything they share can be seen by any other user in the world. Experts say TikTok can not only expose children to inappropriate video and language, but the app can also collect an alarming amount of data from its users, including phone location.

BBM. She was videoing from her bedroom. And it sounds like that app could have shown other people her location? Not good. MOO.

It sounds like we need to start keeping our 10 -- 16 year-olds in the old-fashioned "play pens" like parents used to keep their 10 -- 16 month old babies. Exaggerating of course, but...damm.
Welcome to the 21st century, folks.

It starts younger than 10! Parents are letting their phone SM devices entertain their children younger than 3!

If so, LE is probably waiting -- as said earlier -- for the ME's report, and then to get with the family to decide how to handle/announce the COD. What a tuff job it would be to have to let the family know what happened and then to figure out with them how to announce it.
The public needs to know so they can start sleeping better at night, and so that they and their children can resume a more normal everyday routine, but it would be a really difficult thing for little Amberly's family and friends to hear it announced to the public.
MOO

The worse part is unless the web collapses, we can never take all the evil out. Our children, grandchildren are doomed/addicted to SM. And to be honest us also.

I think the townspeople need to know that there is not a child kidnapper/killer on the loose -- for a lot of reasons.

People will look at anyone they don't know as a potential suspect, people will freak and may dial 911 when someone unknown to them walks down their street/comes into the barbershop/buys a six-pack at the 7-11/ waves & says good-day/asks for directions in a grocery store parking lot, etc., etc.

Apsolutely agree with this. The community needs to understand the danger level

Her most recent IG account was a week old. In the two most recent posts she had scratched through her own face and in a post from 4 days ago she Xed out her eyes. Take that fwiw.
I noticed that as well, the comments under one of them talk about how people call you pretty to your face but ugly behind your back.

Here is a screenshot from Google maps showing the 1900 block of county road 822 where she was last seen just to give everyone an idea of the area. It is not heavily populated with large spans of acreage/forest between houses. I realize the map has it labeled as 1779 County Road 822 but when you zoom in on the mailboxes it starts with 19. I don't know if this is the actual location of where she lives or the aunt lives but it should be somewhere in this vicinity.

I'm not from the area but have visited surrounding towns several times.

I'm having a geography moment. Can someone help me out. She went missing from Collinsville, AL in DeKalb County but the search extended into Cherokee County? This was announced at the 1 PM presser. How far apart are those 2 counties? I'm wondering if she was actually found in another county. Isnt it still pretty dark at 6:30 a.m.? Seems like one would need some information to know where to search in the dark or very early morning hours.

The counties border each other, kinda of like a looking at a profile of stair with the bottom being on the west and going up to the east. Collinsville is located in the southern portion central portion of DeKalb County but Cherokee County is not far away.

Here's a hasty map I made for you. Collinsville is the red dot and as you can see very close to the county line with Cherokee County.

I went through her IG images and never picked up on that. Thank you.
