Google Maps
This is the location that her patrol car was abandoned. It seems pretty busy to me with activity, stores and people out and about in the day. Seems like there should be camera footage around here from one of the stores. I noticed on street level that there is a Wells Fargo Bank. They should certainly have cameras,

Using that map they didn’t go far at all from the county jail. 8 min drive to that intersection and just another few minutes to the nearest mall. There should be cameras everywhere.

2nd one is the route from the jail to the court house, a 3 min drive.

If he came from the Donaldson prison, that’s a lot farther.

Alabama prison official missing after escorting inmate

White, 56, who's been with the department for 16 years, left the detention center with inmate Casey White on Friday morning and neither has been seen since. The pair are not related. The vehicle they were traveling in when they left the detention center was discovered at a nearby shopping center parking lot, according to the sheriff's office.

Singleton said his department was “aggressively investigating” the incident and would be looking into previous interaction between the two to “see if something else was going on.”

Singleton said his department was “shocked” and that it was obviously a possibility that the corrections officer helped him escape. Singleton told news outlets that Vicky White had turned in her retirement papers the day before she went missing.

Regardless of her involvement, the sheriff acknowledged she could very well be in danger.

I gotta say, I'm "shocked", too. What is going on at that facility that allows a correctional officer to just waltz out with any inmate they like? I worked in corrections years ago and there is no way I could have gotten a capital murder inmate (or any inmate for that matter) through the sally port without a bunch of pieces of paper. It's not like we were allowed to just take the inmates out of their cells, walk them out of the facility, put them in a car, and just drive off.

This is not a case of one CO violating policy - a whole bunch of them did. IMO

Unbelievable.

Jail Officer and Murder Suspect Missing After Heading to Fictitious Appointment – New York Times
<snipped & BBM>
Officer White’s patrol car, which was used to transport Mr. White, was seen at a local shopping mall at around 11 a.m. on Friday though it was unclear who spotted the vehicle and specifically where.

At 3:30 p.m., the booking officer on duty reported that he had been unable to reach Officer White. All calls were going to her voice mail. Around this time, officials confirmed that Mr. White, who had tried to escape before, was not at the jail, Sheriff Singleton said.

This right here really makes me wonder (BBM):

"At a news conference on Friday, Singleton said Vicki White, armed with a 9mm pistol, left the detention center with the inmate around 9.41am, headed to the courthouse for what she said was a mental health evaluation for Casey White. She was alone with the inmate, which the sheriff said was in direct violation of department policy.

“Our policy is for any inmate with those kinds of charges to have two sworn deputies escort them. And that did not happen,” Singleton said.

Singleton also said there was no mental health evaluation for the inmate scheduled at the courthouse."

Did she forge documents to get him out of there? You don't just "say" you're taking prisoner Joe to an appointment and walk out. Or just sign them out. It requires court orders or other documentation to move prisoners around. And that documentation is required in advance. Usually 48 hours in advance so the jail/prison knows who is going where when so they can arrange transport and such.

The sheriff is not saying, but did VW file forgeries in advance, making the transport look legit? Or did the booking officer just take her word for it and let both of them walk out?

IMO, of course.

Edit: Can't spell.

I was just trying to type this exact thought out, but you are much, much more eloquent than me!

I am VERY interested to know about when this so-called appointment was "made and put on the schedule". According to CNN:
Vicki White coordinates all transports from the detention center to court and therefore knew the protocol, the sheriff added.

I think the timing could tell us a whole lot. I've got to believe that law-enforcent is exploring this aspect as well!

Well, we know she didn't bring him to her home and that's where they can be found. So what about her home? Did she just abandon it? Because I believe that she willingly assisted him. I believe that she had established some sort of a relationship with him.

Very strange.

Unfortunately I believe Officer White has been snookered by Criminal White. He's not a bad looking guy and I bet he can charm when he wants to. The dead giveaway for me that she is involved in his escape is her excuse for not returning to the jail by stating some illness. She's creating a narrative that can be relayed without question since she is a long time employee with a sterling reputation.

It's very reminiscent to me of a guy I worked a long time ago. He stole over half a million dollars worth of gold wafer that was to be deposited at the Bank of Nova Scotia. He told his boss he wasn't feeling good and he would drop off the wafer and then go home. It was the Friday of a long weekend and no one noticed he was gone until Tuesday morning. By then he was in South America.

The only difference between him and Officer White is he wasn't accompanied by a murderer with nothing to lose.

I wonder where he was from originally or if he still has criminal contacts in the outside world that he might go to for additional resources (hideout, money, id, clothing, etc...)?

Does she have close family or friends who may have insight into her attitude, thought processes, etc. that may be able to shed any light?

I am very concerned for her wellbeing regardless of surrounding circumstances. And for the public at large and any LE who encounter him.

MOO.

So far, we’ve learned very little about his background—or hers. I hope the Daily Mail is working on it. (For all the DM’s flaws, they actually try to investigate, as opposed to just sitting back and quoting the same press release that everyone else is quoting.)

It seems strange that no camera information has been released. I’d have thought that in this day and age a shopping center would have some sort of surveillance.

I'm starting to wonder if these two knew each other before CW ever arrived at Lauderdale County Jail. The entire circumstances here are a little too convenient, IMO. Timeline of CW:

Oct 23, 2015: Connie Ridgeway is stabbed to death in her apartment in Lauderdale County. The murder goes unsolved.

Dec 2, 2015: CW is arrested in Limestone County following a crime spree involving kidnapping, robbery and car jacking.

Apr 16, 2019: CW is convicted of the charges, sentenced to 75 years and remanded to William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility with a minimum release date of Dec 2, 2090. Earliest parole consideration Jan 1, 2061.

June 2020: CW sends a letter out of the blue to Lauderdale County claiming he murdered Connie Ridgeway as the hitman in a murder for hire plot. As a result of this "confession" CW is indicted by a grand jury in Lauderdale County.

Sep 2020: CW is transferred from William E. Donaldson to Lauderdale County Jail.

RIDGEWAY MURDER: Limestone man confesses, says he was paid

- Alabama Dept of Corrections
___________________________________________________________

So I ask: Why would a convicted felon, who is already in prison and not getting out until at least 40 years from now confess to a murder he wasn't even suspected of? What would be the point? What would he gain? What he gained was transfer to the Lauderdale County Jail to await trial for the murder of Connie Ridgeway. From where he so conveniently and easily escaped. With the help of VW. Mission accomplished.

Question is, what is VW's role in all this? Were they already acquainted when CW manipulated his way to the Lauderdale County Jail? Have they been planning this from the very beginning? Or did CW just luck out finding a target to dupe (VW) at the Lauderdale County Jail?

This is a seriously tangled web here and I highly suspect these two were acquainted long before CW's arrival at the Lauderdale County Jail. Why else would VW seemingly walk away from everything - her 25 year career in corrections, her retirement, for him? It makes no sense. And why did CW confess to a murder in order to get to Lauderdale County?

IMO

Or I have it completely backwards and VW was friends with CR, found an opportunity for revenge, kidnapped CW and took him out back and shot him.

IIRC there is an article linked above reporting that CW planned & prepared to escape from the Lauderdale County Jail in October 2020.

Apparently that was was thwarted, but this week he succeeded.

(IMHO, that brain power & strategic ability could have been used to make the world a better place, IMHO.)

Respectfully BBM…..

…..AND the guy you worked with had a million dollars worth of gold wafer if I read that correctly. I really hope and pray this officer is found safe.

“Our primary focus is on locating AD White and re-capturing Inmate Casey White. Our secondary focus is on investigating the escape itself. Indications are, since no court appearance was scheduled, that AD White assisted in the escape.”

Timeline of events released as Feds join search for escaped inmate and officer | WHNT.com

Transcription of the timeline provided in the article (BBM):

8:47 a.m. - Transport Van 5 leaves detention center with 7 inmates escorted by two deputies.

8:56 a.m. - Transport Van 2 leaves detention center with 5 inmates escorted by two deputies

9:20 a.m. - Asst. Director Vicky White instructs corrections deputy to prepare inmate Casey White for transport to courthouse. Deputy removes White from his cell, takes him to booking where he handcuffs and shackles his legs.

9:41 a.m. - AD White leaves detention center with inmate Casey White enroute to courthouse for "mental health evaluation". Prior to leaving she tells booking officer that she is the only deputy available who is firearm certified and she is dropping him off to other deputies at the courthouse and going to Med Plus from there because she isn't feeling well.

11:34 a.m. - Florence Police officer spots the vehicle parked among other cars left on the lot that are for sale unaware of the situation at that time.

3:30 p.m. - Booking officer reports to Administration that they have been trying to contact AD White to check on her and that her phone is going directly to voice mail. She also advises that Inmate Casey White was not returned to the detention center with the other inmates. The Administrator immediately contacts sheriff's office and officers begin a search of the courthouse to determine if inmate White is still in the building. Over the next several minutes it is determined that he is not in the courthouse and that there was no court appearance or evaluation scheduled. Security footage was reviewed, and it was discovered that AD White never arrived at the courthouse.

National APB is put out with information on both subjects. Citizen hears we're looking for the patrol vehicle and reports she saw it on her lunch break at the shopping center. Deputies retrieve vehicle and search it for any evidence. No evidence was located to assist us in the investigation.

US Marshals are contacted to assist in the investigation as are the FBI, ATF, Secret Service, and ALEA. By 5:30 p.m. there are approximately 18-20 investigators locally on the case. Video surveillance camera footage from the detention center, courthouse, the shopping center, and other locations based on tips are searched for leads.

Focus of the Investigation

Our primary focus is on locating AD White and re-capturing Inmate Casey White. Our secondary focus is on investigating the escape itself. Indications are, since no court appearance was scheduled, that AD White assisted in the escape. The question is: did she do so willingly or was she coerced into doing it by inmate White by threatening her and/or her family or other means.
