One could also make argument that there is no evidence to suggest the killer was a stranger.

It is mostly because of the cracked window that I think the killer is someone they did not know. I think if someone went to a person's house they knew(especially if they did not call first), then I think they would just get out of the car and go inside the house. Or at least they would be comfortable in getting out of the car. This is why I think a phone call is important to let the person know they are coming over first.

But maybe J.B. Beasley was having a cigarette or the killer had a cigarette when he drove the car later. Who knows. That is why they call it a mystery.

BBM I read in one of the earlier posts that the air conditioner in J.B.'s car was broken and that was why the window was down. J.B. was invited to the party earlier in the day. I can see her going directly there without first calling-especially if she had been there on a previous occasion. I can't help but think that the killer was there waiting for J.B. If he was outside, they wouldn't have had to get out of the car. I have often wondered if J.B. didn't contact him sometime during the night and let him know she would be by later.

I don't think either J.B. or Tracie were smokers.

TM vaguely recall that there was potentially two phone calls made at the Headland gas station from two different payphones.

Good point about the ac. I guess I could not understand why J.B. Beasley did not roll up the window. Or how did the killer even follow them since it had to be hard to see into the Mazda. How did he know two females were inside the car?

I just thought with Tracie Hawlett's purse inside that she would roll up the window to at least protect from rain or bugs. It made me think they never went far from the car.

Since this is a mapping case it would be interesting to see where everyone thinks the killer might live within the town of Ozark, Al. I think it is probably somewhere along the Bingham Ave. corridor on the east southeast side of town. Maybe that is why he took the baseball cap because he walked towards the baseball fields?

Where do you think the killer lives in town? Or was he from outside town? If he was someone they knew he would have to know their car by sight.

Once police realized they had a double homicide when they knocked on doors who did not answer or looked like they just got up. The killer probably had a long night.

Pretty sure the person lived or was staying with someone within a short distance of where the car was found. It was not a random person rather it was someone they knew. Glad you brought up the baseball cap had forgotten that it was missing. The person or person(s) took mementos very twisted mind.

New to the site and not really a sleuth or anything but this case has always intrigued me. I live about 25 minutes from Ozark . Enjoy reading everything on here. I call myself looking back on here trying find the link to this (V) guys strange comments that have been talked about on here. Have they since been deleted or does anyone have that link still? Thanks in advance.

Hey Sam, Welcome to the forum and discussion. To find the information you are looking for, go to the "Wiregrass.com" site and go to "Wiregrass Talk." From there, you can search for the thread "JB and Tracie (murdered in ozark)". There are other threads worth looking at too, but that is where I would begin. It is over 40 pages and a lot of it is junk (MOO), but there are some very interesting discussions between a potential suspect (who started the thread) and a private investigator who was hired by one of the girls' parents. It takes some time to figure out what is going on, but I think there is some relevant information in that thread. Like I said on this forum before, I think a skilled prosecutor could probably make a decent circumstantial case based on the guy's own words and admissions (which obviously occurred over a period of time as the thread was being created). Again, the thread takes a good bit of time to read, but I think it is worth your time if you are interested in knowing more about the case.

Some of it is entertaining once you figure out the characters ... Very good read indeed as Bulldog stated.

Yeah I joined it right before it blew up with the whole Jon Carroll deal. Pretty much a sorry attempt to get publicity for his blog IMO. Anyways, As far as Barrentine being dead has this been confirmed? Find it hard to believe he died without the police knowing.. Ozark is a pretty small town. Only obit. I found was his fathers.

Yes Johnny Barrentine is deceased, as is Ms. Merritt (the kind lady that gave J.B. directions at the Big/Little Store).

Has anyone revisited the Wiregrass dot com boards again lately? I have been re-reading the JB and Tracie (Murdered in Ozark) thread. I may be wasting my time- I grudgingly accept that. I know that LE are aware of the thread, and I feel like the suspect in the thread has been investigated, but there must not be enough there to indict him as of now. There were obviously private conversations in between V and another poster, VTF, in which he said some very suspicious things, even non-directly admitting to being a murderer at one point. (Your fate is to be loved by a murderer..) Also, VTF states V wrote that he is a "**ggerlover killer" in a private message.

Another thing that jumped out out me on rereading is a post by (screen name) Nicodemus in which he says to V something like...did you promise to give her (JB) the rest of what she needed to get her friends out of trouble? Nicodemus- I believe- is the private investigator hired by one of the girls' parents, and I think the discussion happened in '08 or '09. This sounds similar to some of the HCR information. I think it was Cool J that said, regarding the HCR reports, "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater", and I think I'm starting to agree.

By the way, the poster VTF (from Wiregrass) posted on the Justice FB page under her own name. She posted about the difficulties of getting an indictment or conviction for the murder and was rebuffed forcefully by some her fellow posters. She stated that she has shared her information with local, state, and federal LE officers to no avail.

Any opinions about the info above?

Yes that's right. I said there was too much specificity and numerous whistleblowers for the HCR reports to not have had at least some truth and relevancy.

It got shut down quick, fast and in a hurry.

Agreed, there is somethings about the HCR reports that may be true and some that was blown out of proportion. Venus that there was a good one poster... Oh goodness didn't catch the PI's specific comment ... Very interesting guess that brings light to something that was being looked for. The breaking into Tracie's house ... Hmm....

I don't comment much these days, but i still read each new post. I still believe they were killed for the simple reason that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. That it was a crime of opportunity. Occam's Razor.

Hey Killarney Rose, I just wanted to say that I respect your opinion very much; I know you have been looking at the case a long time, and it is very possible that you are correct. If it was random, then the offender must not be the DNA donor (possible!), or he has managed to stay out of trouble (that doesn't seem likely in my opinion). I'm assuming the DNA is still in CODIS and being actively checked. I am positive that V is a creep, but that doesn't necessarily mean he killed the girls. Thanks for your leadership in the sleuthing on this case.

Great post Bulldog! I had re-read the Wiregrass 40-page thread a couple of times and went back and read it again yesterday after seeing your post. Something that jumped out at me for the 1st time concerned what you mentioned about Nicodemus's words, Cool J's post and something mentioned in the HCR's story. The HCR indicated the girls had tapes that could embarrass some important people. I believe Nicodemus was also referring to videos when he asked the V about him "promising to give JB the rest of what she needed...". The part that really got my attention was when It was mentioned in the thread that V had 3 webcams set up in his apartment. If their were tapes, could this have been the place of their origin and could this have been the way the girls gained possession of them (assuming the tapes really exist and assuming the girls had them)? Could this have been what the girls were killed for? Could this have been what the police were after when they went by the Robert's (Tracie's parents) home a week or so after the murders?

I don't know if this is the way it happened or not, but it does make one ponder the possibility.

Also, did you note that Nicodemus also thought at least two people were involved in the killings-one male and one female?
