In April of 1974, in
Montgomery, Alabama, Jesse Lee Bates, 28, and his wife, Mary
Frances (Friendly) Bates, were enjoying their newborn son when
she sent him to the supermarket to get diapers and formula. She
was busy, likely tending to the baby when she realized it had been
a while since Jesse had embarked on his errand. On the kitchen
table were the purchases, but he was neither home nor in his vehicle.
A few days later, his car was located abandoned behind the
supermarket, and it appeared to be in disarray. A missing person
report was filed, but over the years had been lost or destroyed.
Mary died three years later of acute pancreatitis, leaving
their son to be raised by her mother. What happened to this young
father?

I’m commenting here to bump this. I live in alabama and have read a lot about the different missing people in alabama and neighboring states and have never heard of this case.
