Praying for Mr. Fredd.....92 years old, God bless him and keep him safe. I lost my mom to dementia and when I hear of missing elderly people, my heart aches. The article doesnt mention any health issues for JDF though.

Kiva Coleman, Fredd’s grandsons’ wife, said that he sits in the chair on his porch almost all day, and that his disappearance is very strange. When his sitter arrived in the morning on Sept. 26, Coleman said he was no where to be found.

“We know that he’s missing a pair of sandals which is what he wears around the house, and his cane is with him but his cell phone was left in the house,” said Coleman. “He does have his wallet, but when we looked in the house, other than that there wasn’t anything that was out of the ordinary.”

Fredd’s family said that he does not suffer from any memory-loss diseases and is not one to walk off, which is why they believe something is wrong. Coleman said that he is very well known and respected in the Tuscaloosa area, a retired educator still loved and visited by many of his former students.

Search for missing Tuscaloosa man enters third day

This article is from today and has a lot of good info. This is so upsetting for his family and friends and is completely out of the ordinary for him. I couldn’t pick what to quote from the article because it was all good info on Mr. Fredd. I’m also impressed that his story got another news article because I see so many in Alabama that go with so little info and get forgotten. I hope Mr. Fredd is found safe soon.

Did he have a car? He had a cane so I don't think he did much walking.

From the article MFH posted above:

“Fredd uses a cane and never walks farther than a neighbor’s house or around his yard.

‘The hardest part about it is not knowing what could have happened,’ said Albert Wilson, who was a shop teacher at Eastwood Middle School when Fredd as assistant principal. They were later administrators together and have been neighbors since Wilson built a home nearby several years ago.

Fredd calls his daughter or Wilson when he needs a ride somewhere, either to get a sandwich at the nearby Subway or McDonald’s or shopping at Walmart or Sam’s Club. Family members have spoken with all of his friends and no one has heard from him.

‘That’s what makes it even more scary, because we have no clue as to where he could be or who he could have left with,’ [Kiva] Coleman [“who is married to Fredd’s grandson and considers herself his granddaughter”] said. ‘If he did, in fact, leave walking, we just don’t know.’

[SBM]

His daughter last saw him Tuesday afternoon around 4 or 5 p.m. A sitter who comes by in the mornings contacted the family when she couldn’t find him Wednesday morning.

[SBM]

Fredd has lived in his home for around 30 years and has lived alone since his wife died a few years ago. Coleman said she hopes anyone who may see him will take the time to call police or take him to safety.

‘Take him to the police department, take him to the hospital. Just take him somewhere where he can be safe and we can get him back,’ she said.” (BBM)

Per Google Maps, the red pin shows the general location of Mr. Fredd’s residence (I typed in “4900 12th AVE E”):

I hope that they have searched the pond (circled in yellow in the first attached screenshot), as well as the creek (“Cypress Creek”; please see the second ss).

Oh no, these ones always really break my heart, I can't imagine the confusion and fear. Like a child they are so vulnerable, so fragile. Fingers crossed that he is found wandering somewhere.

Twitter

This is an abc 33/40 reporter and her tweet says found in the woods near his home... I hope it wasn’t foul play. I don’t know if it would have been normal for him to go alone out to the woods or not, but I wouldn’t think so since it seems he had family and a sitter regularly taking care of him.

I'm so sad to see this. I really hope there was no foul play involved... perhaps he just got confused and wandered into the woods, since it says close to his home.
Prayers for his family now.
Rest in peace, Mr. Fredd.

Found deceased near his home this morning. Very sad. It sounded like they did a lot of searching of the area. I wonder how close he was? It sounds like he had a very good, long life. RIP Mr. Fredd

Thank you for the update, MFH. So very sad for Mr. Fredd, his family and his friend, Mr. Wilson. Clearly, he was a good man, who was dearly loved by many.

Rest In Peace, Mr. Fredd.
