IMO, this is the prelude to setting up plea bargains. When there is no defense, you have to throw a lot of spaghetti at the wall to see which noodle sticks.
Oh yeah, they're defective alright. Defective in many ways. However, they are evil first and foremost, to allow abuse and negligence to go on under their noses, or to be the perpetrators. This does not excuse them in any way, shape or form. It does not absolve them of guilt.

This is just MO but I honestly think that the problems Kahleb had were a recent onset caused by the monsters he was living with beating him until he couldn’t move. There are a couple pictures of him as an infant, then as a toddler where he was sitting on the back of a trike with his sister, sitting in a chair on his own & one held in WB’s arms. He had no physical deformities in these pictures that would’ve been apparent if he had the issues SC said he had that were going to take a long time to recover from. Yes, he could’ve had other medical problems that weren’t apparent, and absolute they are stressful for parents but IMO that isn’t going to be the case.
I think any degeneration in his health and wellbeing was the result of long-term torture and abuse. It's easy to explain away constant bruising, malnutrition and muscle wastage and mobility issues if you tell everyone your kid has some progressive disease, so sad, nothing to be done.

It's worth remembering that a baby that appears perfectly healthy at birth can go on to develop a range of medical conditions in the first couple of years. For example, most mitochondrial diseases emerge within the first year or so, eg Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans.
what you say is true, but in this case, not a single soul has claimed Kahleb had any health issues except those accused of the most heinous abuse that is alleged to have killed him. so I think unless something comes out in trial that indicates medical records support that health issues claim we can safely chalk it up to straight up lies made up by his murderers to cover up his absence. JMO

I agree that we may find out more from Kahleb's medical records at the trial - assuming that he was receiving medical attention and care. But if he was, shouldn't medical staff have picked up on any signs of abuse happening at that time? It's possible that his family didn't take him for the expected and routine baby development checks, and unfortunately it doesn't sound as though there are sufficient remains for a meaningful post mortem.
They definitely did not have regular well care visits for him, at least not within six months of his death. Certainly not for any of the injuries they inflicted on that sweet child.
yes, I truly want to understand what the motivation was. What was their excuse that in their minds made this excusable?
