CBS 42 reported that Sheriff said she had been found but then they backed up and said that lead agency was BPD and BPD Chief Information Officer said that Cupcake has not been found and that the investigation is ongoing. Very confusing situation.

UPDATE: Birmingham just put out an update to let everyone know Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney HAS NOT been found. Birmingham PIO Johnny Williams says the girl who came out of the apartment resembled Cupcake. Reports were conflicting bc Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said she was.

That sheriff jumped the gun, which was the biggest error here.

The media felt comfortable running with the “found safe” story, because it was coming from an official involved in the investigation.

I guess all the confusion came from another little girl that was on the scene (in one of the apartments). I think it led to a sort of "mass hysteria" and game of telephone. One person says "that's cupcake!" then MSM reports she's been found. "Something was taken out of context" sherriff just said
