So you’re out past McCalla or something like that? There are tons of goofy instances of similar problems of which Tuscaloosa County is only one of them. Shelby County is another that intersects with Jefferson where even Birmingham has city limits within but the general area is covered by Shelby County sheriff. Craziness for sure.
I lived in Shelby County for awhile. Teeny tiny town and commuted daily to downtown Birmingham. I was there a couple of years and still didn't learn my way around all the different parts of Birmingham. Thank God for GPS bc ppl tossed around "center point" "mid-town" "five points" "riverchase" for meetings and I never knew if it would take five mins or 45 mins to get where ever we were going LOL

Am I the only one who thought "holy 🤬🤬🤬🤬, this is real life Criminal Minds" when listening to the chief's plea? It sounded like it was carefully scripted out and they used very specific and even odd-sounding phrases.... ie. "assuming" the perp is frightened and appealing to that. Safe passage is even a bit of an odd way to put it and he repeated it so many times.

That and then he point-blank said he was appealing to a "certain group." It kinda seems like they know a little bit about what situation they are looking at here...

But hey, maybe I've just watched one too many episodes since this all started. :)

You know, I honestly thought the 2 morons in jail would have rolled by now if they actually passed Cupcake on to someone else.
So now I’m thinking that you may be correct that they are not talking because the truth may be really bad!
I hope not, but damn it’s been a while now... where is she? MOO
Yeah, I’m convinced that one of them would have rolled, or law enforcement would have figured it out on their own.

They’d also be looking over their communications (cell phone activity, online, etc).

The fact that this hasn’t happened, leads to two options:

They genuinely don’t know, because they aren’t involved.

They know, but the truth carries a life sentence.

Birmingham PD Chief may be a fabulous chief and person. I have no reason to believe that he isn’t. However, I do not think he is a good public speaker for a news conference at least. I thought his statement and answering of questions was flat and lifeless. Yes, I’m sure he’s exhausted, but this is about finding 3 year old Cupcake and he needs to have the FBI doing the pressers. They have experience in appealing to perps and can come across as strong, determined, and forceful.

They were let into the secured area with LE. They were on the right and left side set up INSIDE the secured area. I wondered about it when I first saw it. Usually the press is inside, all are in the same area with a law enforcement officer ensuring they do not enter the actual crime area or near the family.

She could have been found deceased. Do we really want the media video the victim of the family under those conditions?

I worked with media for 40 years. Good and some very bad situations, never did I allow them unsupervised. Its for there protection.

Jmo
Wow. I completely missed that. I kept seeing the yellow tape in the background on the 3 I kept switching between. I had to turn one of them off because the camera (with open mike) was behind the line with all the bystanders. You could hear every single thing they were saying (the cheers, “I see her pigtails,” there’s the grandmother). Just too invasive. 40 years - you must have the patience of a saint

I’ll bet it was designed and scripted by the FBI. No organization has more experience with cases like this, and they have a wealth of knowledge in regards to the best approach.

That probably wouldn’t have been done on a whim.

They are doing a great job of keeping Cupcake out front and "in the news" even though today has been much of a fiasco for LE.

I agree, that PC was the FBI trying to get a message out and change the dialogue from "fiasco" to urgency to find our little one.

I know today was rough, stuff happens - no excuses for what happened - it did and now it's over. FOCUS and move forward.

This PC may be the most important one they do.

Questions I would've asked if I were a reporter in that presser room:

1. What if anything, have the POI's that are currently in jail on other charges, given you, as far as clues or indication of her whereabouts? Are they talking?
2. Has the vehicle obtained by LE from the POI's been searched for any evidence, fingerprints, etc; and if so, are the reports from those findings in yet?
3. Can you say what the ages of the girls were that were found on the cell phone of the male POI?
4. What kind of involvement have the FBI had in the investigation thus far, and is that going to change in the future?
5. Has the 11 year-old brother been re-questioned since Cupcake's disappearance and if so, are there any new revelations that can be reported?
6. Was it ever verified that there were indeed adults offering candy to children on the day of her disappearance?
7. How is the family coping and are there currently any searches underway by the community that you are aware of?
8. There have been conflicting reports in some media outlets that the actual abductor was said to be a male and then others that say a female. Which is correct, according to the witness?

Okay, who's got something to add? MOOOOOO

YES! These are great.

I just have to add that I was literally shouting at my computer when someone asked what the emotional and physical toll was like on the police. Of course we need to be so thankful for all they do but you get one chance to ask a question and that's what you ask!?!?!?!

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Glad you are here with us posting. We were all confused, and we live here, in terms of what was happening. What a mess! The worst part of it all, is Cupcake hasn't been found.

I swear, this was a set up of some sort. Send LE in one direction while the real crime- however anyone wishes to take it- was happening elsewhere. Whether she was moved, alive or deceased, during that time, someone wanted LE in a different area for that time frame.

I’ll admit, I’m very cynical. When reports early on said the grandmother got a tip and called it in, my first thought was that it would certainly take the focus away from all the very troubling information circulating about Cupcakes family members. I’m still thinking this “tip” was a red herring. I hope not. I want to be wrong on this. MOO

I don’t know...I would think that there are some situations where it may be helpful for a more polished outsider to step up to the mic, but I can also see where it might an advantage to have a local do the talking. Perhaps it depends on who really is the target of the message: the perp, someone in the community who may know something, or both.

I agree. JMO.

Would they really bring a huge volume of LE, a masked swat team (bearing a door breaker), a helicopter, an ambulance, a fire engine and the rest today for an ‘anonymous tip’? I don’t live there of course but for me it screams a cover up or something underlying. Not in a bad way. I believe everyone concerned has the same agenda, to find her but for me it’s just too much for a daft off the collar tip.

I’m going to say cupcake is closer to home than we think...

Yes they would. I have seen it before many times.

coming down from such a crazy emotional afternoon, I will say that I was impressed with the amount of LE that went to that apartment building. They didn't hold back that's for sure. I think every Dept in LE participated. That was an excellent job and most likely scared the poops out of the rest of the neighborhood. IMO
