I knew public consensus was heading this way since the OP where I linked the tabloid Daily Mail story, which made use of the term "sinister" (which of course rhymes with.....).

Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law as always. Apparently he's not even charged yet.

Please remember to keep the discussion limited to the information contained in the very enlightening MSM article. Shahan has not been charged yet and he might not be according to Lt. Atkinson. So let's stick with the facts as we know them until we get further info.

It sounds like if they are going to charge him, they will be doing it soon.

Thanks,

Salem

This will have something to do with it, imo. I thought so then, and I think so, now.

Also, for anyone wondering about the source of the statement about a loud thump heard by a neighbor at about 11 PM the night before the body was found, its included in the video report of July 25th at: oops, sorry, they updated the link just moments ago, and now its totally gone. Its a cbs42.com link which someone linked to early on in this case. Maybe it will reappear.

I found that article interesting, too...

HMMM...

another thought...

Why did the couple file for bankruptcy...

Was there an outflow of funds we are not aware of yet?

Could someone have wanted a "Pay up" for a debt?

PURE SPECULATION HERE...

Yikes...going to go read right now...just saw it!!

BrianinBham...where are you? Is this going to possibly be what you suspected???

I came back today to see if I we can start talking in terms of reality. What are the rules at this point? Nevermind, I see them above. I really don't have time to invest in this thread until the "gag order" is lifted. :-) You guys have fun! It's just going to get steamier.

Not yet. I think they have to bring charges against him before anything being rumored or speculated can be discussed. Mod just said to keep discussion to what's been reported in MSM at this point.

BhamAdGal made an interesting point in one of her comments below the AL.com article. I have a feeling she might be right in her thoughts.

Scratch that...can't find the post now. I think it was removed. Sorry. I'm sure we'll be able to discuss the motive that was mentioned soon enough ;)

I completely understand how you feel Brian but we all know the rules are quite different from talking to your neighbor across the back fence and being on a public forum and discussing who we feel are suspects when they have not been officially named yet. Once a suspect is named by LE then we can talk about it. Hopefully it will be only a little bit longer. If you have inside information I know it is probably very hard for you to hang back but I know you can do it. We all enjoy your posts.

Thanks, Mods, for understanding how we feel!

- The Rev. Richard Shahan, an associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Birmingham, was taken into custody Wednesday in connection with his wife's slaying, AL.com has learned.

Oh $#@*!!!!... My continued prayers especially for Karen's boys and the two small grandchilren, as well as my prayers for the community and fellow members of the church that they will be given the strength to get through this no matter how difficult it may become.. Hugs for kahne9 and your family:hug:

Quote: Rev. Richard Shahan voluntarily came in to the police department on Wednesday to speak with detectives about his wife's death, Homewood Police Lt. Ken Atkinson said Thursday.

Shahan was held in the jail overnight. No formal charges have been filed. Lt. Atkinson is not sure if charges will be filed against Shanah, and said he could be released from jail later today.

Homewood investigators have not ruled Shahan out as a suspect in his wife's murder, but he isn't the only suspect in the case, police said.
Officials have not released a cause of death.

Just a quick question regarding the status of suspect being a prerequisite in order for further discussion to be allowed.. Referring to the above bolded by me the Homewood investigators, themselves are now quoted in mainstream media that Shahan is a suspect, but that he is not the only suspect.. With that said is that not meeting the prerequisite of now being a suspect per LE in MSM? .. Just asking..

Well, if he did it police obviously weren't able to get a confession. There must be zero evidence of a stranger intruder, such as fingerprints.

SMOOTHOPERATOR....I just wanted to say THANK YOU for your post, it means a lot to me. There are people out there that only care about Richard spending the night in jail, not the ones who are in shock and hurting over this news. I'm still out of town and didn't find out about this until my best friend called me this morning. Anyway...Thank you

Kahne, I honestly cannot tell you how much my heart is going out to you right now in thinking about just what a very real impact that this is already having on you, especially in regards to your children.. I know you shared with us about Richard having lead your son to the Lord and the amount of care, respect, and honor your son has for this man is very much on my mind and heart in thinking of how we, as adults cope with the possibilities that now may lie ahead..but even greater is my thinking about how children are faced with coping and dealing with the knowledge of someone that they had such respect and admiration for, that played such a significant role in their young lives..kahne, I truly believe that no matter what difficult truths may be lying ahead in regards to this horrific tragedy, I truly believe that you have the strength within yourself(through the Lord) that will allow you(and therefor your children) to handle, cope, and deal with whatever lies ahead..its definitely a time that you all should not be hesitant to lean on each other(members of the church and community) and draw upon each others strengths and comforts in taking whatever comes just one day at a time..

My words fail to adequately describe how my heart is going out to you and your community during such a time of uncertainty.. Just know there are so many who care, including us, here at Websleuths that are here for you as well..Again my continued prayers for you all:hug:

:heartbeat:

Does anyone know how long they can hold the Rev., without charges? There was discussion of this earlier and I may have missed it. In most states it's 72 hours though in a few it's 48.

As Gomer Pyle used to say: Surprise, surprise!

The crime reporter for the Bham News stated in a comment today that she thinks it's 48 hours here.

If a person gets held for 48 hours can an attorney get them out quicker?

Just wanted to note the couple new details that have emerged via MSM regarding Karen's murder..

-Per al.com they have stated that their source revealed that Karen was stabbed, tho to my knowledge Homewood PD have not given a public confirmation..
(**IMO I unfortunately believe this to be true with this news agency going on record and publicly making this statement..but jmo, tho)

-Per several MSM its now being reported that along with the home being found in disarray, there was also found to be a window in the home that was broken..
(**To my knowledge, at this time, that is the extent of the detail regarding one of the Shahan residence windows being "broken"..nothing further as to which window, or how it was broken has been reported thus far)

>>>>>>feel free to edit/add to this list as new details and info emerge<<<<<<

Link to source the above, newer info listed-
