I understood Adkinson's comment (linked above) to mean something different.

The parents of college students were asking police if it was safe to send their kids back for the new school year. His answer was that if anyone were targeting people in THAT (the school's) area, they would be alerted.

Quote, BBM:

The slaying has sparked concern in the community because police have not said whether they believe the killing was random. Atkinson said today he knows there is concern in the community. In addition to neighbors' qualms, he said police also have received some calls from parents of nearby Samford University students asking if it was safe to send their children back for the new school year.

"If we thought someone was targeting people in that area, we would alert people,'' Atkinson said.
"There is just nothing pointing one way or another."

Just checked local sites...still nothing. I know Homewood Police Dept. will not just leave this hanging. I feel like they are onto something and are keeping quiet in hopes that someone involved trips up and leaks something that only they can leak. JMO

Yikes...going to go read right now...just saw it!!

BrianinBham...where are you? Is this going to possibly be what you suspected???
With the various investigative details about Shahan included in that article - the bankruptcy filing, for example - it would seem that the MSM news source had been prepared for this eventuality for quite some time. Those weren't just thrown together at the last minute.

I agree and I suspected this to be the case all along. Don't know how this will play out but hopefully we'll start seeing some news from other local sources today as well.

BTW, just saw a Facebook post on a friend's timeline and it said they found Karen Shahan just laying on the couch...not as if she had put up a struggle. This, to me, indicates that someone who knew her was involved. If it had been a stranger/intruder, she would have been fighting for her life. JMHO

According to some of the posts I'm seeing below the article, it appears they can only hold him for approximately 48 hrs without charging him. Does anyone know if this is correct? Another poster commented they thought it was 72 hrs. Nevertheless, this means that they will either have to release him in the next day or 2 or they will have to charge him. Should be interesting...

wonder why he didn't bring a lawyer with him?

http://www.myfoxal.com/story/23083137/homewood-pastor-rev-shahan-questioned-in-wifes-death

Quoting above article and BBM:

Rev. Richard Shahan voluntarily came in to the police department on Wednesday to speak with detectives about his wife's death, Homewood Police Lt. Ken Atkinson said Thursday.

Shahan was held in the jail overnight. No formal charges have been filed. Lt. Atkinson is not sure if charges will be filed against Shanah, and said he could be released from jail later today.

Homewood investigators have not ruled Shahan out as a suspect in his wife's murder, but he isn't the only suspect in the case, police said. Officials have not released a cause of death.

Although it says officials have not released a cause of death, I'm reading on FB everywhere that she was stabbed which is what I suspected all along. This is just my suspicion as well as the suspicion of some of my FB friends. We will have to wait for the official word as to cause of death.

Do we know he didn't?

I don't think he ever thought they'd suspect him, other than the required questioning that LE does after such an incident. He might have thought he'd look too suspicious if he brought a lawyer. Most suspects think they will look more innocent that way and more believable.

I don't think I've posted here but have been following all your great posts from the beginning. Just gotta say...

YIKES alright! I'm anxious to hear how all this unfolds.

Do we know if Karen accompanied her husband on his two Church trips to Kazahktan in the last year and if she would have been going with him this year as well?

The May 2013 church newsletter talks about it and about welcoming a visitor to the church on May 22, the person with whom he is doing some translating and other work with.

Maybe Hobby Lobby gives people time-off for ministerial trips?
This will have something to do with it, imo. I thought so then, and I think so, now.

Also, for anyone wondering about the source of the statement about a loud thump heard by a neighbor at about 11 PM the night before the body was found, its included in the video report of July 25th at: oops, sorry, they updated the link just moments ago, and now its totally gone. Its a cbs42.com link which someone linked to early on in this case. Maybe it will reappear.
