Nope, Alpine you're not confused.. this info was stated in a post that immediately had replies discussing/asking about Karen's mom.. To my knowledge there was never anything found, linked, sourced, or cited for anything regarding Karen's mom, AT ALL..

The only place I have seen anything about Karen's mom even being alive(as she had many family listed in her obit, but nothing about her mom)...the only place I've seen that info about mom was in a post here..

anyone know anything further about this issue?

This is probably one of those personal anecdotes that in reality doesn't bring much to the table, but...

I did a LE welfare check on one of our employees who didn't show up for work one day. He was a friendly and reliable guy, and never did anything like that. He wouldn't answer his phone, and we didn't want to call his parents out of state and freak them out, yet he lived too far from the office for a casual check. So I called LE in his town. (He had apparently just forgotten his schedule for that day, and I still don't know why he didn't answer his phone, nor the door when LE tried on him.)

I've never told him I called for a welfare check--didn't want to embarrass him. But it was SO out of character and he'd been off social media for a few days.

I do believe there was a scheduled appt with the church for that Tuesday morning.. The church stated this info, as well as that Karen Shahan did not show up for this Tuesday morning appt at the church..

Unclear what, and with who that meeting at the church involved..we just know that she not only failed to show up for work at Hobby Lobby that Tuesday morning, but that she also had failed to show up for the scheduled meeting at the church as well.

I believe her mother predeceased Karen - in the 'guestbook' section of her online obit, her aunt has posted the following -

She is with her mom and all who have gone before.

I had thought the original obituary didn't mention her family but the online version with guestbook does. I had never read there until now.

No news? I wonder what the adult sons are thinking about these days .

Thank you for doing my "homework" for me!

I so appreciate your thoroughness, Smoothie!

could have met at a restaurant for an early dinner and he
might have retired to his hotel room for the evening
before 7:00 pm with plans to leave very early the
following morning for a visit with his other son in Ft.
Campbell, KY which is another approximately 1 hour away.
He could have cleaned up at his home in Bham and been
back on the road to his hotel room in Tn by 1:00-2:00 am
and back there by 4:00-5:00 am...regrouped and headed
out to KY around 6:00-8:00 am, arrived around 7-7:30
until around 9:00 am. We don't know if anyone from KS
work tried to call him to check on why she hadn't made it
into work per schedule.

This is all based on the possibility that RS was in Franklin,
TN on Monday but that has not been reported. If he was in
Ft. Campbell, Ky, you would have to assume all times would
be an hour earlier...IOW, he would have have had to leave
Ft. Campbell around 6-6:30 pm to arrive back in Bham by
10-10:30 pm on Monday evening...give or take about a half
an hour because most of the trip is interstate and speed
limits are 70mph but you can easily drive 80mph in AL and
not fear being stopped for speeding.

To clarify this above post is in reply to my post narrowing down the most likeliest TOD for Karen being between 10:30-11:30pm on Monday, July 22.. Based on that approx. TOD Clemifern has done an excellent job of detailing the possibilities in timeline form wrt Richard Shahan and his known and/or assumed whereabouts before, during, and after the time of his wife's murder..

I just wanted to bring her post forward as I truly believe it shows that given the times/distances/info known that it is realistically possible for RS to have travelled these distances in the allotted amount of time and circumstances as we know them thus far..

All jmo, tho.

Thank you very much :) I'm not really a "sleuther" but I do watch a lot of true crime television & movies, follow a few cases and read a lot of true crime books so I guess it helps a little. I don't know what my fascination is with this particular case, other than the fact that it happened in my hometown, but I really want to see someone punished for this lady's awful death. I guess it's also the fact that the Homewood PD has kept so incredibly mum about the entire thing! That speaks volumes IMO ;)

And, of course today the big news here is the UPS plane crash that's all over the nat'l news. I'm betting RS is glad it's taking the focus for the time being. Even though there haven't been many reports about him and KS's death, if it's a slow news day, the press is more likely to dig around and ask more questions trying to get something new on the case. Sadly two UPS pilots lost their lives on that plane today. Such a horrible tragedy!

Nope. Checking everyday on all the local media outlets and not a peep. We'll hear something soon. I just know it.

I hope I am wrong but I have a bad feeling about this murder. I am afraid Karen's murder will end up in the Cold Case Forum. Like I posted before, I hope this does not end up as a Matt/Kari Baker situation. Who am I to question a man of God? So, who killed her? Are there any suspects? Does she have an advocate looking for answers?

The first trial I watched was the Jodi Arias trial. "Justice for Travis" all over the place. Comments/fundraisers/help the homeless endeavors, out the wazoo on social media. Might be that Baptists are more reserved than Mormons, IDK, but I have not seen any news/social media crying out "Justice for Karen". Maybe the Travis Alexander friends were over the top with all the interviews his best friends did?

Eerily quiet...IMO.

Standing in a church doesn't make you a "man of God" any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

Question away! LE is, apparently.

I hope that's not the case. I don't know how much family she had and I don't know who her advocates might be. Maybe some people from her work might get involved at some point if it takes too long for anything to be done. I just don't know. One would think that her sons would be screaming to the high heavens for a suspect to be brought in but if they are scared their dad might be involved, they may be too afraid to say anything. Maybe they think their dad will be wrongly accused if they push too hard.

Maybe they are afraid of what's going to come out about their dad if this takes off in the media. I have a feeling there may be some shocking stuff about his personal life that he and his family may not want to come to light.

It's just too weird...I've never seen a case where the immediate family isn't demanding something be done or at least giving an interview or a statement on the news. This family, the husband and 2 sons, have not said a word.

Many church members have questions, and it's alright to ask questions, Carter said.

"Who did this terrible murder?" he said. "Why did they do this? Why the unexpected developments in the aftermath of this? Why the notoriety that has developed as a consequence of this? These are logical questions."

bbm, I wonder what this means.
