AL - Karen Shahan, 53, murdered, Homewood, 23 July 2013 #2

  • #401
Thank you, CountryGirl and Flutterflies, for the updates! :tyou: :tyou:

So... RS and his lawyers waived this hearing... As the case would be going to the Grand Jury either way...

Do any of you great Sleuthers know the possible time frame when the Grand Jury will meet... And report their findings?

TIA...:seeya:

Shahan's preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Judge Shelly Watkins' courtroom. There is no word yet on when the case will go before a grand jury.

Thanks CountryGirl for sharing that news clip. I recommend watching it as RS and his attorney look like they are enjoying themselves.

Someone asked about when a Grand Jury meets, it depends on the county's rules. Some meet when ever there is a need and some meet every so often,

The man he's yucking it up with looks like the friend in the bright yellow jacket that walked him out of jail.

"In the end, God will be glorified." Well, that's a pretty bold statement. I can't imagine that God will be glorified through any of this evil crime.

I thought that was a strange comment. I guess the guy did not know what to say.

That was NOT his attorney with him, and yes they seemed happy because there was no one else in the room and he was probably attempting to lift his spirits.

Or, he knows he is innocent.

pastorpk,

Do you know if either of his sons were there?

Is the man beside him a relative?

Actually, they weren't alone -- you can see someone in a red jacket beside the seats @ approx 1 minute, then walks behind and sits down.

Karen Shahan is the victim in this case.

Thank you again CountryGirl for this clip. In the article below the clip it says the pastor from RS's new church was there.

In court this afternoon, Shahan was joined by Ken Phillips, the pastor of Oak Mountain Baptist Church in Pelham. Shahan became a member of the church after his resignation from First Baptist Church Birmingham.

I could be wrong but I thought RS resigned from his position at FBCB not from his membership. Maybe the 2 go hand in hand? Does anyone know?

Didn't his church employer agree to help fund him on his mission trip?

I feel very confused?

I thought so too. I would think a reward for the arrest and conviction of Karen Shahan's killer would have been offered. Sadly, I haven't seen one.

He did resign from his position... and normally, a resignation of a pastor from an SBC church gives him the freedom to join another church of his choice. I don't believe the church was helping him with his mission trip...it was the money that he raised himself that he was using for the mission trip. The Southern Baptist Convention has a huge funding program for missionaries, but the mission agency that RS was with was not connected with the Southern Baptist Convention, thus, I believe that the funding was not coming from the church...only through donations. I could be wrong on that, but from my experience with SBC churches, they do not normally fund other missionaries that are not part of their Cooperative Program.

Evil people surround themselves with evil people, so anything that supposed pastor has to say goes right in the dumpster as far as I'm concerned.

Poor Karen, having to spend her life with that lying monster.
