Finally....

A Shelby County judge has set a Sept. 14 jury trial date for Jeff West, who authorities say killed his wife Jan. 12, 2018. Kathleen Dawn West, 42, was found partially nude and dead the following day outside of the Calera home she and her husband had built on Green Wood Circle in 2015. They lived there with their daughter, who was 12 at the time.

A judge announced West is tentatively scheduled to stand trial beginning on September 14th.

A backup date of October 19th was also listed in the judge's order.

The trial will face unique challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jury selection will take place at the Shelby County Arts Center to allow the jury pool to socially distance within the facility's 10,000 square foot Grande Hall. The trial will be live-streamed to separate courtrooms for West's family and the public.

I hope so! I was getting my hand splinted & the man doing the splinting asked me about this case specifically even though he doesn't follow true crime. I think everybody wants justice for Kat!

8/23/18 Update: Next hearing on 8/27. 8/27/18 Update: Jeff West attorney, John Robbins said there is still more discovery between prosecutors & himself which needed to take place before a trial date could be set. A new status hearing was scheduled for 12/3/18. 12/3/18 Update: Next hearing on 3/4/19.
8/12/20 Update: Shelby County Circuit Judge William Bostick this week set the Sept. 14, trial date with a backup date of Oct. 19. A pretrial conference is scheduled for Aug. 26. Once a jury has been selected, trial will resume in the actual courthouse where there will be a socially-distanced juror seating area to be used exclusively by the jury. The court, in an effort to provide public access, will live-stream all public proceedings to other rooms outside of the actual courtroom.

Agree. If she had a habit of going outside nude, there would have been other behavior, possibly calls to LE. Neighbors would have noticed and said something. If the husband fabricated this, it's a shame her own mother believes and repeats it to the national news media.

Sad that she wasn't closer to her daughter.
