Friends of a missing mother and daughter are taking extraordinary steps to make sure their disappearance isn't forgotten.

Kim Whitton and 11-year-old Haleigh Culwell of Jackson County were last seen June 21st.

Kim and Haleigh's friends are rallying the community, a banning together of sorts.

Their goal is to raise awareness in hopes of bringing an end to this ordeal.

Purple is Kim's favorite color.

Now it's being used as a reminder of Kim her daughter, Haleigh's disappearance.

"If you can put a purple ribbon on your mailbox, on your car antenna, wear one on your shirt. Whatever, whatever it may be, just to remember them," says Kristy Wright.

Kim's co-workers at Cloverdale Manor in Scottsboro started the campaign.

They're the ones that reported them missing and now they want to help bring them home.

They've also turned to the internet.

"A few of us got together and created a Myspace page," says Wright.

A Section man whose wife and stepdaughter have been missing for more than a month was indicted today in U.S. District Court of being a felon in possession of firearms.

Barry Van Whitton, 38, was indicted because he is a convicted felon and law enforcement authorities found several firearms in his possession during a July 12 search of his property, U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin said in a news release.

Authorities found a Columbia 12-gauge shotgun, a Universal M-1 .30-caliber semi-automatic carbine, a Winchester 30-30 lever action rifle, a Crickett .22-caliber rifle and a Savage Arms .22-caliber rifle during the search, Martin said.

Do we have a thread on Chief Morrison's daughter? I'll go look.

A little late and off topic, but here is the info on Chief Morrison's daughter. I couldn't find a separate thread for her.

Friends and co-workers of Kim Whitton will hold a candlelight prayer service Saturday in Scottsboro for her and her 11-year-old daughter, Haleigh Culwell.

~snip~

Wright said she and other co-workers are organizing Saturday's event, which will begin at 6 p.m. at the Goosepond Colony Amphitheater. "We don't want people to forget," she said.

Wright said the event will include music, free refreshments and the release of balloons at sunset.

Donations will also be accepted to help Kim Whitton's family to defray costs in their search and any legal expenses, she said.

The most recent news was from January...

"Our biggest frustration was obviously the Whitton case," said Miller, referring to the disappearances of Kimberly Whitton and her daughter, Haleigh Culwell, 11, back in July of 2007.
