Brittney Leigh Hensley, 37, was arrested by the Ocean Springs police and charged with felony child abuse causing serious bodily harm, according to her online booking record. On Tuesday, Oct. 29, she was taken into custody at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center in Pascagoula, Miss., where she is being held on a $500,000 bond.

I suspect she never did plan to, and this was a way to get rid of the child.

The reporting makes it sound like the child agreed to go along with this. In reality, she must have felt too afraid of her "mother" to resist. Thank goodness she survived. Hopefully she ends up in a nurturing, loving new home.

This poor child. I pray that she has family that can get her far away from the abuse she has probably suffered. You know the "mother" didn't just wake up one day and decide this.

Hensley fled the area before she was set to meet with police investigators and officials with Child Protection Services regarding the criminal allegations.

Alabama authorities arrested Hensley on Oct. 15, and she was later extradited to Mississippi to face the charges here.
