The Huntsville Police Department is working jointly with other agencies to survey and collect evidence surrounding the disappearance of a Huntsville real estate agent, Ronald Dumas Jr.

Police say a report was filed with them on Tuesday for Dumas being missing. According to the report, he was last heard from over the phone about 10 p.m. on Dec. 15. Information in the report states it sounded like he was out with other people when he was on that phone call.

On Monday, Tennessee Highway Patrol had found his vehicle on the side of Interstate 40, which was then impounded. Police say the vehicle was not occupied at the time of impoundment.

UPDATE 12-20-24:
Investigators are using cell phone information to trace the movements of Ronald Dumas Jr., of Huntsville, who went missing over the weekend.

THP committed state troopers, a helicopter, and two Tennessee Bureau Investigative agents to help with the search and collection of information. Today while searching in Camden, TN. Dumas's cell service location history revealed that at 6:08 a.m. Mr. Dumas’s cell phone was traveling West on I-40 well past mile marker 133, so we have reason to believe that someone was following Mr. Dumas or a motorist stopped and helped him continue his travels.

Huntsville real estate agent Ronald Dumas Jr. has been missing since Saturday night, with his vehicle later found abandoned in Tennessee.

Dumas was last heard from around 10 p.m. on December 15 during a phone call in which he seemed to be socializing with others. On December 16, the Tennessee Highway Patrol discovered his unoccupied vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 40, which was later impounded.

Dumas' cell location history revealed that at 6:08 a.m. on Dec. 16, his cell phone was traveling West on I-40 past mile marker 133.

This has given investigators a reason to believe that someone was following Dumas or that a motorist stopped and helped him continue his travels.

The mother of Dumas’ children, T.B., is not convinced with HPD’s idea that Dumas isn’t in any danger.

S.S., the mother of one of his 3 kids says Dumas would never walk away without letting his family know.

“He adores his kids, his kids adore him so he understands how much of a role he plays in their lives he’s not going to go 4 or 5 days without speaking to them,” S. told News 19.

S.S. also states he loves his car and would never leave it like that if it weren’t working

I wonder if they actually know the car was broken down (as in, couldn’t be driven) rather than just abandoned/dumped where it was left?

Second to that, it sounds like they are assuming he was with his phone when it continued to travel along I-40, but I wonder if there was any further use? Obviously, we don’t know if he was travelling with his phone or if his phone simply ended up in a car for some reason.

I don’t know this area at all, but is there uber/lyft?

That’s a good point about him traveling with the phone. I’m thinking if he wasn’t with the phone that means someone stole it, and he would be incapacitated somewhere near the car? I doubt he would walk away and not take the phone. I believe I read that the phone wasn’t used again and it was tracked until it “lost signal” or the battery went dead.

I found that he unfortunately has had several DUIs in the past 10 years, which in no way makes him a bad person but might give insight into how this situation could have played out. When his car broke down, if he was intoxicated he might have wandered into traffic, someone hit him, panicked, and threw him in their car? I’m totally grasping at straws here.

A previous poster also found the June 2024 arrest for harassment, maybe that person or persons were following him, made him pull over and forced him into their car? That would explain the phone continuing to move…but I hope neither of these scenarios happened.

Cell phone pings traced Dumas's device traveling west on I-40 past Mile Marker 133, near the city of Camden, per THP information. As of Friday, investigators believe someone was either following Dumas or helping him continue his travels.

The person who filed the missing persons report told police that other people were audible in the background as they last spoke with Dumas on Dec. 15. Police say they do not know who those people were but hope they will come forward, or that someone can identify them.

Investigators also received data Friday showing that on Monday morning, Dumas’ cell phone had traveled west on I-40 “well past” the point where the car was found. This provided “reason to believe that someone was following Mr. Dumas, or a motorist stopped and helped him continue his travels.”

Really strange. He had a working phone, yet it doesn't sound like he called or texted anyone to tell them his car had broken down. What if he was intoxicated and walked much further than expected?

I'm just reading up on this case and have likely missed some things but here's what I've put together so far as to the timeline.

Sun, Dec 15 about 10 pm - Per police report, Ronald was out with people on Sunday, but his family and friends don't know who they were. The person who filed the MP report said they last spoke to him around this time and that other people were audible in the background.

Mon, Dec 16, 6:08 a.m. - His cell phone was traveling west on I-40 past mile marker 133 toward Jackson.

Mon, Dec 16, 6:30 a.m.- TN Hwy Patrol were dispatched about an abandoned vehicle and found his car on the side of I-40 near mile marker 133 close to Camden TN about 9 min later. The car was impounded the same day.

Mon, Dec 16 just after 7 a.m. - Huntsville police said his phone was on in a location just outside of Jackson TN.

Tues, Dec 17, 9:48 a.m. - The missing persons report was filed.

Wed, Dec 18 - TN Hwy Patrol discovered the vehicle belonged to Ronald and dispatched troopers to search the area where it was found. Huntsville PD learned the car was impounded in TN and entered Ronald in the NCIC database. They also attempted to call his cell phones, which were not on.

Thu, Dec 19 - Huntsville PD said they sent requests for the location history of Ronald's cell phone to his service providers.

Fri, Dec 20 - THP state troopers, a helicopter, two TBI agents were sent to search for more information. An investigator examined Dumas’ car and found that it likely had broken down before being abandoned.

HPD is asking those who were with Dumas on the night of Dec 15. to come forward and provide information to authorities.
