Huntsville real estate agent Ronald Dumas Jr. has been missing since Saturday night, with his vehicle later found abandoned in Tennessee.

Dumas was last heard from around 10 p.m. on December 15 during a phone call in which he seemed to be socializing with others. On December 16, the Tennessee Highway Patrol discovered his unoccupied vehicle on the shoulder of Interstate 40, which was later impounded.

red and bold by me.
SMH. Not liking this at all.
Assuming his being with people he knew on Dec. 15 seemed to be okay. Then nothing.
Does he have a working cell phone? (Probably not by now...)
His unoccupied vehicle -- that worries me quiet a bit, of course.
Did his vehicle break down, or was he forced out of it, or did he park it to get a short stretch from driving, or was he forced out at gunpoint, or did he plan to join someone else, etc., etc.
He has been missing too many days.

Vehicle broke down. His cell phone last pinged 60 miles west of his car before shutting off or battery died.

Many thanks, Sherlock1842 -- I'm just getting into this thread.
Hoping for good news soon.

I am curious about the fact that the vehicle was impounded so quickly after being reported as abandoned. Usually it takes hours if not days for abandoned vehicles to be towed off the interstate, and they are not usually taken to the police impound lot. RD hadn’t even been reported missing at that point. Does anyone have any insight?
Maybe the vehicle was too close to road traffic.

Occam’s razor (and my inner devil’s advocate) would suggest there is a simple answer to this mystery. What are the chances that Mr. Dumas just had enough of his life and wanted to “disappear”? I know his family does not believe that, no family wants to believe that. But he had a lot of responsibilities for someone so young and the pressure that results could make anybody break after a while.

Somehow his phone and car ended up in Tennessee, with or without him. That seems to be central to the mystery of his whereabouts.
We have been operating under the assumption that HE was driving the car in Tennessee, but what if he’s not the one who drove the car and left it there? “He last spoke with a family member at around 10 p.m. on Dec. 15 after leaving the area of Laurelwood Lane in Huntsville earlier that day, the Huntsville Police Department reported on Dec. 26.” People were heard in the background of that call, but I don’t think anyone has come forward yet…very suspicious.

That's a very good point. The Huntsville PD flyer indicates that the car was found near Waverly TN on the Interstate. That's approximately 100 miles NW (ATCF) of Laurelwood Ln in Huntsville. That seems like a long jaunt to be taking late on a Sunday evening.

It would be interesting to know (I think) when the Tennessee HP first received calls concerning an abandoned vehicle on I70. It was left on the inside shoulder, so it would have been very noticeable.

The inside shoulder? I didn’t realize that. Someone earlier in the thread wondered why it had been impounded so quickly, that could explain it.

this report indicates LE believe his car broke down. I wonder if they have been able to access a key to determine if that belief is accurate at this point. I am imagining he did not abandon his car with keys in it so my question is do they now KNOW if his car broke down or if it was simply abandoned on the side of the road by Dumas or some unknown individual?

Dumas family spokesperson Troy Styles says law enforcement is working hard to bring home Dumas but the family is getting desperate.

“The family is tired. The family is really going through a lot since the holidays have been around, there are children of Mr. Dumas in this case and this is their first Christmas without their father and they have certainly noticed his absence,” said Styles.

I do wish we knew if his car had a mechanical issue!

So since they can track his phone, can they track what calls/texts came in? I know they can't read texts without the phone, but they can track texts in and out during the missing time. What were they, and who were they to?

He last spoke with a family member at around 10 p.m. on Dec. 15 after leaving the area of Laurelwood Lane in Huntsville earlier that day, the Huntsville Police Department reported on Dec. 26.
According to this report Dumas left the area of Laurelwood Lane in Huntsville “earlier that day”. BBM
Is Laurelwood Lane where Dumas was living? By 10:00 pm he could be very far from that location when he talked to the family member. Did the background noises with people’s voices sound like he was in a bar/restaurant, on the street, or perhaps in a home? LE should know by now the general vicinity of where Dumas was when he talked to the family member.
If it was Dumas who was driving the car when it was left on the side of the road and it did break down from some type of mechanical issue, did he get out and hitch hike? Is that how the phone traveled west after the vehicle was abandoned?
Where was he headed? Memphis? That is the next big city if he was trying to get away for a while.
If his car was taken by someone other than Dumas from AL to TN, did that person cause harm to Dumas? If the phone was found east of the vehicle, I would have surmised that whoever stole the vehicle tossed the phone out the window so he wouldn’t be traced. If a car thief had the vehicle with the phone in it as he headed west, would he take the phone as he made his getaway after the car broke down? Doesn’t seem likely to me.
Maybe Dumas did get a ride from someone after the car broke down and it was Dumas himself who got rid of the phone around Jackson. Then what?
