I don't know if Savannah's VUR would have been a contributing factor in her death. It's rare to die from complications of this condition because it's often discovered in utero and preventative treatment is started as soon as baby is born.
The risk with this condition is infection could easier reach the kidneys due to a malfunctioning ureter(s). Physicians will place children on a low dose antibiotic and watch the child over the years to see if there's improvement or worsening of the condition. If there's no resolution by the age of six, surgery is the next step. Savannah was nine. Her VUR should have been resolved either by normal growth or surgical intervention. I still feel like there was some medical neglect going on here.
Savannah going through all of that for what is probably nine years, I have a hard time believing physicians wouldn't have discovered other health issues. VUR kids see the doctor, a lot.
