State steps in to protect murder suspect's children

The state has been asked to create a safety plan for the 3-year-old brother and for the newborn Savannah Hardin's stepmom, Jessica Hardin, delivered in the hospital this week.

Jessica Mae Hardin is still in the hospital under guard after giving birth to a baby. Once she leaves the hospital, she'll have her first court appearance on the murder charge.

Records that could pertain to Hardin case sealed

Existing court records that could pertain to a 9-year-old girl who died Monday after she allegedly was punished for eating candy bars and lying about it have been sealed until they are reviewed by a judge.

Court documents are expected to be released in Lakeland, Fla., where Savannah once lived with her mother, Heather Hardin.

The Department of Children and Families had several investigations in which Heather Hardin was the target, the Ledger in Lakeland reported.

So it looks like the records in AL will be sealed until Monday, but the records in FL will be released soon. I guess due to the sunshine law.

Heather Hardin, the mother of Savannah Hardin, could not be reached Thursday at her modest, single-story home just north of the city. Attempts to contact her by phone were unsuccessful also.

According to DCF spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner, DCF investigated the child's living arrangements several times between 2007 and 2009. In each case, Heather Hardin was the target of those investigations, Hoeppner said.

Officials with DCF said they anticipate releasing a cache of records regarding those investigations soon.

The link says the child with this condition should be encouraged to drink fluids. I think it's rather obvious that if they were so concerned about the child eating chocolate, running her around made no sense whatsoever.

My thinking is if in fact she had this bladder condition why they just didn't talk to her about it and the "danger" of eating certain things would do. I think if you talk to a child and explain things of this sort they would listen and obey better. Always worked for me when my son was young. Sitting down and talking, to me gets their attention better.

Cause they are evil.

My son suffered with Vesicoureteral Reflux (also known as VUR). I see it's been reported Samantha suffered from this condition. Believe me when I say, this condition is strictly congenital and not caused by abuse. My son's VUR was discovered in May 2009 (he was 7yrs old) -- he had a surgical repair of his right ureter in July 2009.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vesicoureteral-reflux/DS00999

Most children grow out of VUR by the age of 6. Those who do not are candidates for one of two surgical procedures. I'm wondering if Samantha had one of these procedures or if she was receiving continuing treatment and care.

Interesting. As for running 3 hours, she did not consume any fluids. Marathon runners consume plenty of fluids and sometimes over do it.

I was commenting on your disbelief (that I share) that they would do this over "running". Not sure if someone else has already answered this for you.

I don't know what the heck I was trying to say.

I mean, I can't believe that they would choose this form of punishment. I'm sure you probably got that; just making sure. :)

I imagine they did tell her not to eat chocolate. But kids will be kids. Clearly running this child for hours was very wrong, even if she didn't listen to them and ate this candy. This candy wasn't going to kill her.

Slightly OT but when I was little, maybe 4, there were these diet meds disguised as caramels called Ayds. My hand to God---ain't that awful?

Anyhoo,my mom was always dieting and she had a box of them hidden in the linen closet only not hidden so well. We weren't allowed sweets so naturally I had a wicked sweet tooth and climbed into the closet and ate a goodly portion of the box.

Now I don't know if it was just caffeine or heck, maybe even something really strong that was legal OTC back in the 60's-70's, but when my mom discovered my deed shortly after, she wigged out, made me drink ipecac and rushed me to the doctor. I was fine(although probably pretty hyper), but I guarantee you that it never occurred to my mom to physically punish me for that, and also she lightened up a little on the sweets ban in the house.

I know it's not the same, those Ayds were not just candy, and I didn't have medical condition that may have been exacerbated by the candy (had it actually been candy), but how snake-bit mean do you have to be to run a child TO DEATH because they ate an effin candy bar?

"oh it's bad for your health so I'm going to physically abuse you until you die to teach you to take better care of yourself". Makes great sense.

I don't think these two cared about explaining things to Savannah in a kind way...I expect they mostly communicated with her by yelling a lot.

Yes, these loving adults SO cared about her  They were clearly worried about how the chocolate might affect her health, but not so much about how running her for 3 hours straight with no break or water might.

Monsters, those two.

Actually, she did the abuse and the stepmother did nothing to stop it.

She is the one who made Savannah run.

OH! I did not know that. :what: That makes the attorneys statement even more despicable.

Her desk at Carlisle Elementary School has been placed just inside the school's front doors and some of her work, her school supplies box, and other materials are laid out on top.

Every year the Buffalo Bills hold TC in Rochester and I always try to make at least one practice. Professional football teams will not run the players for three hours. The practices last about 2 hours and the players stand around a lot listening to the coaches or waiting for their turn to try a drill. If an NFL team ran their players for 3 hours without fluids these professional athletes could die too. Even if the team included small breaks in the running and plenty of fluids the players union would go ballistic.

What's amazing is that professional athletes are covered in sweat and get plenty of fluids during the practice. I don't think you'll find one NFL player who likes TC. This little girl HAD to look horrible after a half hour and it should have been obvious after 45 minutes that this was torture. :banghead:

You just reminded me of the unpleasant experience I had when little. I found what I though was hidden chocolate in our pantry.

That was when I learned firsthand about exlax :(

Etowah County Sheriff's investigators say the girl got some chocolate on the school bus she wasn't supposed to have Friday.

--------------------------------

Her father, who was working overseas,
flew home as soon as he found out that his daughter was in the hospital.

-------------------------------

Jessica Hardin and her husband's 3-year-old son is in the father's custody.

I wonder if the father will get the new baby as well?? (If the 3 year old and the baby have the same father.)

I heard on NG that the Stepmom had poisoned the 3 year old boy at one point and he had to go to the ER to be saved. What was he thinking leaving his Daugher with this witch? I know it's not his fault, but poisoning a child. I'm surprised she still had custody!!

She was a lovely little artist! Horses, flowers and rain clouds. So sweet! I hope Savannah's grandmother and stepmother are sent to general population!
