Birmingham teen missing for 4 days; public’s help sought in locating him

Authorities are asking for the public’s help in finding a Birmingham teen who has been missing since late last week.

Sean Caribe Avant Jr., 18, was last seen Thursday, Feb. 6, between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to Birmingham police.

Avant was reported to have been in a car with a friend and dropped off at an unknown location said Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams. His family reported him missing when he did not return home.

Both his mother and father, as well as other family members, have been pleading for help finding him on social media posts throughout the weekend. “If you are a father you should feel my pain,’’ his father wrote on Facebook. “My kids are my world and I will give my last breath to save them.”

Avant was wearing black jeans, a gray hoodie with a tiger on the front and yellow and white Jordan shoes. He is known to be active on social media but has been inactive since his disappearance.

He is described as a black male, 5-feet, 3-inches and weighs about 130 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Birmingham Police Department at 205-297-8434 or 911. If you have additional information on this investigation, contact Crime Stoppers 205-254-7777.

ETA - not sure why it looks weird, but if you click the link it does go to the correct post.

His dads posts are heartbreaking. I have not been able to find Sean’s sm though. I wonder if he went by a nickname or if I am just slow to find it. In the news release it is reported he was very active on sm until he went missing.

NVM - found it Huncho Dinero

His profile pics must be the grey tiger sweatshirt he was last seen in. His last public post was the day he went missing.

Semi local. When I read this article yesterday, I was wondering if it might turn out to be him.

It's just tragic. Birmingham has such a problem with violence, guns, drugs, and young guys like this are getting caught up in it. I'm not saying he was, but sadly, this is often the outcome when a young man goes missing in the area.

...
Authorities said Avant was found 75 yards off the roadway and down a 30-foot embankment on the edge of the water.

Very sad, although somewhat expected conclusion. From looking at his social media he frequently posts #LongLiveRayRay and has pictures at the gravestone of his friend who was 14 and killed while committing a robbery with an older boy. Slain 14-year-old 'always had a smile on his face'. The older boy committing the crime with him was charged in his murder (even though he did not shoot him). The mom of the older boy arrested made a strong statement that seems to show how even the parents cannot keep these adolescents from getting pulled in to these dangerous groups. Very sad situation in Birmingham and across the country when the death of a friend isn’t enough to spur change to prevent something similar from happening again. Mom of teen murder suspect won't make excuses for son

This also happened this week in Birmingham. Teen identified as victim in Sunday night shooting in Bessemer

Such a seemingly hopeless situation.
