I love Wegmans (Scranton, PA and had one in my hometown near Binghamton, NY). My problem is it tends to be more expensive then the local chains (Gerrities, Mr Z's). We do however splurge from time to time and head over there. Their produce is fantastic, there bakery is the best and their overall selection can't be beat. I just wish they had better prices.

On a side note. The Baldwin's are from near my hometown, I probably shopped at the same Wegmans.

Now that I think of it..I bet Alec's mom moving to California has nothing to do with Wegmans. She probably just doesn't want to be seen with him!!

Wegmans scores big on the small screen

On Friday, actor Alec Baldwin talked Wegmans with late-night TV’s David Letterman, with Letterman quipping, “The center of the cultural universe, Wegmans.”

The Wegmans folks are ecstatic.

“We’re still smiling about it. It’s been fun - - we feel a lot of pride,” said Jo Natale, director of media relations for Wegmans. “It’s been great hearing from our customers and our employees that they feel the same way.”

Wegmans has had a working relationship with “The Office,” a comedy about the fictional Dunder Mifflin paper company in Scranton, Pa., since fall 2007. Wegmans cereal, popcorn and cans of Wegmans soda have discreetly popped up in many episodes since then.

Thursday’s product placement was not so discreet. It screamed “Wegmans.”

Right after the show’s main title sequence, 2.5 minutes into the episode, two of the key players in the ensemble cast are seen unloading containers of Philadelphia Phillies ice cream from a “classic black” Wegmans reusable shopping bag. The bag is front-and-center, with the “Wegmans” name unmistakable, and prominently on-screen for seven seconds — a lifetime on a network TV show.

We have a place here in Dallas that looks similar to what the pic of Wegman's looks like and I love it. Finally got the DH to shop there after he price compared and it's cheaper than other grocery stores and the produce is 10 times better.

On a side note: Alec lives part time in Cali and in NYC when filming 30 Rock so he is near his dear ole mom for more than half the year!

I'm with Dolly, in Cali it's Trader Joes and Henrys, and then Whole Foods. I shop at them all, and then also Ralphs, which is Kroeger (I believe) and of course, Walmart SuperStore.

Each has their own specialty and prices vary. This Wegmans sounds like a cross between Trader Joes/Whole Foods/Henrys. All of these have almost a 'cult-like' following.

I'm sure all of them are great. But it sounds as if Wemans has an advantage of their prepared menus. Of course, I haven't tried Whole Foods prepared menues, so can't compare it.

Ok, I have to admit, that on one of the links to Wegmans, I found a video that prepared 'grilled summer squash' and I took notes! :)

PS....oh,............there's a little local store, only three or a little more stores that sounds like Wegman, I've never been there myself, but it's got a cult-like following in some communities here in So. Cali,.............'Mothers.' They have LOTS! of Vegan type food.....:)

Where do you guys live? lol. I've never heard of any of these places. We have Walmart, Meijer, and Hardings.

I live in Central NY, in a suburb of Syracuse... I'm one of the lucky few who get to say that there's a Wegman's within 10 miles in any direction :)

Wegman's is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only do they treat their customers well, they treat their employees great. I don't know all the particulars but in some way they kick in on their employees' college education Beautiful stores, every thing they do is A+.

Somebody already voted that they've never heard of it and it's just a grocery store. What's funny is that when one comes into their area their vote will change.

My mother who does not like change got a Wegmans near her a couple of years ago. She had heard my brother and I raving about it and now she is a huge fan.

I'm just trying to understand why that store inspires such feelings of loyalty. :waitasec:

Manhattan will most likely never have room for it, and we did not have a Costco either till recently and it is NOT doing well at all.
But we have so many amazing food markets. That We here in the big apple will never miss the others.
You cant beat the fairway for produce; Citarella for fish, and meat, Zabar's for all kinds of prepared food, cheese, olivs, produce, breads and much much more. Yes I live walking distance from all those, just to mention a few. We here in Manhattan have so many more.

If Baldwins Mom is a foodie, I do understand her. What I Do not understand is she can live in both places with Baldwin's money, so why not? She can ship special things to LA. The produce in LA is fantastic and there are a few good meat markets (not sure about fish). I lived in LA and in Florida very long ago, and I got things shipped all the time. Wegmans does ship. I can not believe that is her reason.
But it is her excuse. Maybe she does not want to live near him he was said to be controlling and has a temper; but she cant say that publicly... LOL

I'd never heard of Wegmans-- west coaster here. I guess my equivalent is Whole Foods, http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/values/ -- around here we call it Whole Paycheck!

Of course, we love Trader Joe's and buy local produce at farmer's markets!!!!

Many years ago in Chicago I fell in love with Treasure Island -- excellent selection very close to Trader Joes
