All Sauvie Island Searches

Something has brought them back to SI for search IMO. I haven't a clue what but to go back to SI after they ended their extensive searches there makes me really wonder why.

Bear with me, but I do have a relevant point. IMHO, Terri gave LE an account of her day that closely resembles what we read in the e-mail she sent to her friend on June 5. It may vary slightly -- she may have left out some things (Starbucks?) intentionally or unintentionally, but I believe her initial account has been verified to the extent it can be verified. IMHO, LE knows when she couldn't have and when she could've done something to Kyron and disposed of him. For instance, LE knows she was at the FMs, and so IMHO they've ruled out that general time block as the time Terri did whatever she did and in the process they've ruled out that general area. Also, IMHO, at some point the ping results came back on her phone and showed she was near Suavie Island. She accounts for this by saying she was driving K around and trying to soothe her, but LE doesn't buy it. This is the only time period they can't verify, IMHO, but it's not a lot of time. If Terri did something to Kyron, she did it quickly and she disposed of him quickly. She didn't have time to drive 100 miles away or dig a deep grave.

LE believes Terri is guilty and that her phone pinged near Suavie Island at a time when her actions can't be verified continues to lead them there. IMHO, given what LE knows about her day and her whereabouts, she could've ONLY disposed of him on Suavie Island and that is why they continue to revisit the island. Additionally, someone else mentioned that water levels are low right now, and so if Terri disposed of him in the water LE might be able to see any suspicious containers or other remains. IMHO, they didn't go there based on new information, only reexamination of old information.

The family of course wants there to be a live child. They believe that TH is responsible and, oddly enough, may have difficulty imagining that she could murder Kyron. (And that makes perfect sense to me; whatever else might have been going on in the family, they clearly had no idea that TH would be capable of abduction, let alone murder--or murder for hire.)

LE, however, is operating from an experience base that suggests people are capable of horrible things. They investigate, follow leads and tips, and probably go with the percentages that say Kyron is no longer with us. There may be a whole parallel track going on. going on with LE looking at other possibilities. The dissonance comes, I think, from a natural and appropriate decision not to assume that the abductor killed Kyron.

I don't know much about the climate and "seasons" of this part of the country. Does October bring falling leaves? Will Sauvie Island be more or less difficult to search as October and November give way to winter?

Some of the leaves are starting to fall, but November is when all the trees will be dropping leaves in mass quantity.

Nearly 12,000 acres of the island are undeveloped, serving as the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area. The island is surrounded or dotted by water features, including Sturgeon Lake, Johnson Lake, Halderman Pond and Wagonwheel Hole. In June The Willamette Week newspaper, citing anonymous police sources, reported that cell phone records show Terri Horman was on the island June 4.

KATU Reporter Margy Lynch was the first reporter on the scene Saturday, covering what could be the largest search and rescue effort since the first search sweep for Kyron after his June 4 disappearance. Sauvie Island is about 15 miles north of Skyline School where Kyron attended second grade and is believed to have disappeared from a morning science fair. The road from Skyline School to Sauvie Island, Northwest Cornelius Pass Road, also has been the focus of renewed searches in this case.

Gosh it is such a large area. It will take a miracle to find Kyron out there. :praying:

I think the Sauvie Island search is just a seasonal re-check of the area. I read on the threads here at WS fairly recently that LE had also gone back and looked again around the Skyline area...

I think Kyron is probably buried on private property, somewhere quite close to Skyline Elementary... MOO

I hope you are wrong as that makes it so possible that he will never be found. If he is gone, his mom needs to know...

I am hearing the Shuttle buses starting to transport search teams to their assigned search areas.
(I'm at home waking up, if I can rustle up PDX or... later maybe I'll head on out there)

Here are some pictures a person from another forum took when he went and poked around on Sauvie Island:

http://s1004.photobucket.com/albums/af163/synpodcast/?start=40

You'll see a secluded swampy area that is easily accessible by car and if you look at the photo at the top right of the page (it's the one where you can just see part of the sign that says "Hot Deli"), you can see 3 cell towers in the background, if you look past the stop sign. That picture is looking southeast from the island, the main road that curves to the right becomes the bridge (that takes you off the island) just out of the picture.

I agree with grandmaj, the large area, heavy brush, swampiness and water in general means that the searchers will have to get extremely lucky if he is somewhere on or around the island.

You both are spot on...
There are many many secluded places on the island....

It's huge, even my friend who goes to the "regular' beach part often had not been on some of the other roads and he commented "this place is huge!"

Yes, ITA, his mom is going through unimaginable he**. I really do think he could well be on someone's private property... There is always hope ; I remember reading that Tim Miller's daughter was found in a pasture on someone's land.... But she WAS found... I say never give up... MOO

Recently-developed information led investigators to conclude there were areas of Sauvie Island that needed to be examined--and in some cases, reexamined--in greater detail.

http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Kyron-searchers-comb-Sauvie-Island-104215589.html

This makes it sound like the new task force has come up with something that wasn't looked at before. I was sure hoping that fresh eyes looking at this case, would come up with something, maybe they have. ?

]I wonder if her clothing she wore that day was taken and examined? I would presume so but perhaps not since TH has never been a "POI" officially.[/B] Although they did check out the truck. Anyways, if your scenario is correct you would think they'd find some thorns in her clothing (and possibly scratches were visible on her skin the first day or two after Kyron went missing). I wonder what type of organic material/evidence they found in that truck. As we all know LE doesn't give out much info on what they find. THere could always be that "unimportant until its important clue" that puts things together. (Say if they found a body in the raspberry bushes and then compare small snippets of broken raspberry bush leaves that were found in the truck for example) Also Im curious if they found any kind of berry staining on her shoes, in the truck etc. You cant get a mile near those things without getting stained with smashed berry juice in my own experience with them... Anyhow, We may never know, but I sure hope this new search pans out something. I have always felt that they will get their answer this fall when the foliage dies off.

Hi, Boggled. It's pretty common for LE to check out the clothing and shoes worn by family members on that day. Not sure if a warrant is required, but most family members would give their clothes to LE voluntarily, as long as they have nothing to hide.
It would not be unusual for some of Kyron's hair or skin particles to show up on Terri's clothing since they lived in the same house and probably came in close contact at some point. BUT... your mention of the berries, leaves and dirt is right on. They would have examined her clothes and shoes for signs of anything unusual that showed up, that normal people on a normal day would not have on their shoes/clothes. Dirt can be analyzed to determine a certain area they are in, as well. Good thoughts!

Free thank you so much for all you do and have done. It means so much to me and I'm sure many of us who are not close to the area. Thanks to PDX too.

All the swamplands and water makes me wonder if she dumped Kyron in water???
I read a report once that when woman kill, they usually bundle up and put in water,
as in BACK to the womb. (Huckabee case)

I still think it has to do with the cell phone pings. We know Terri was at the 2 FM, I would also think her cell pings showed that, besides surveillance videos and eye witness. IMO the pings showed she was somewhere else, other than where she said she was, driving the baby around, at 10:00 or there about, until she checked into the gym, at 11:39. IIRC Terri never mentioned Sauvie Island. LE had to investigate where Terri said she was. But, IMO they have to investigate where the pings show where she was. IMO Sauvie Island is where the pinging started, after 10:00 and that is, I believe quite some distance from where she said she was.

I think it has to be more than cell pings, if it is true that SI does not have a tower?

  • #198
I hate that they went back to Sauvie Island because it means they are not searching for anyone who is alive. The foliage and undergrowth is still thick, it will be a while before the undergrowth dies back. I pray he isn't there.

freefallzzzz, are Sauvie Island School and Skyline School in separate school districts? TIA

And thanks for the photos and reports!

I am not freefallzzzz, but I can answer that and the answer is no. Skyline is part of Portland Public Schools, and Sauvie Island is part of the Scappoose school district.

I think it is important to remember that they may be looking for evidence which could be a number of things...
It helps me at least to remember this when I am feeling particularly sad about the possibility that they could find our sweet lil Ky out there....
