All Sauvie Island Searches

  • #261
Interesting. In this video there is a quote where they say Police say they are not searching for any one piece of new information just being thorough.

http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Kyron-searchers-comb-Sauvie-Island-104215589.html

OK after the video is over and the Newsperson comes back on she ends the segment like this...

Reliable sources tell news channel 8 that the investigation recently uncovered information that prompted them to examine new areas of Sauvie Island and go back over areas they already searched.

ETA thanks to Billylee for the link and pointing out it sounded like there may be new information from the investigation....... so I went back and transcribed it.

For historical reference re: the interest in Sauvie Island, here's an article from June 17:
http://blogs.wweek.com/news/2010/06...yron-horman-focuses-on-step-mom-cell-records/

From the report:
"The island is more than five miles from rural Skyline Elementary School, where Horman was reported missing June 4. But rescuers on horseback, on foot and in dive teams have repeatedly scoured the island beginning around June 10 and continuing this week — even after Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton called off other major search operations last Sunday."

Offered for reference only. (OFRO??) :)

Well it does seem as though LE believes there is a good chance he is out there on SI someplace, unless as has been indicated, it is just so large and hard to search, they felt the need to do much more before being able to rule it out.

I hope if he is there, he is found very soon and not overlooked in all of the brambles, brush, etc...

Recently-developed information led investigators to conclude there were areas of Sauvie Island that needed to be examined--and in some cases, reexamined--in greater detail.

In other words, they searched areas that they had not done previously. And that was based on some new insight, not necessarily a tip. And then they did something different in this new search "in greater detail" when searching the areas they've already searched. JMO, but it sounds like they were looking for some "thing", not necessarily Kyron that they hadn't thought of looking for before. But who knows?

Too tired to go thru and resize all pics.. I'll do it later.

This album..
http://s160.photobucket.com/albums/t166/ubrmel/10 03 2010 search kyron day use area/
Day use area off Reeder Rd right at MP 7 right at Mult/Columbia County Line.
End of this road leads to Columbia River.
They were in blackberries and had to use the things to chop them down. Very thick brush.

MCSO was one crew, the other was Mountain Rescue (they were helping search but they said they were a bit out of their element as they usually do Mountain Rescues.. very very nice crew)

Others may have been there, this is just all I saw.

This album below is on Rentenaar Rd.

Ok to drive down road, go to end park w/permit and go on berm to look at wildlife.
You have to have hunting permit to go off the road past the red signs, lots of little dirt path/roads.
That is where the SAR team was, but I did not get pics as I could not drive down the road they were on.

Hope this gives you a feel of the terrain..

-)
I prob spelled stuff wrong, I'll go fix it up later =)

free will post a photo for you later.
April-October requires a hunting permit to enter the area at the end of Rentenaar.

d'oh! The other way around, October - April. So, no ranger would be looking for hunting permits if someone went off road in June.
Per free photo #2 in the 2nd album.

Thanks both of you.. thought for sure I had posted it because I caught that too! In the KGW broadcast last night, the desk anchor read the last portion, but it was the same as Kelly Burden's video.

My translation of her words? Think back to a 'new lens'? New information gives context to old information.
In one way, the searches seem spread all over, in another view, they're fairly specific.

My transcription of Kelly B's video:

Reliable sources tell Newschannel 8 the investigation recently uncovered some information that prompted them to go examine some new areas of Sauvie Island and also re-examine some areas they've already searched. Meantime the Sheriff's office says they're going to keep coming out here until they have some resolution.

* Kyron Horman's mom pleads for reward increase

PORTLAND -- The search for Kyron Horman continued Saturday on Sauvie Island.

All day, 160 search and rescue personnel from multiple jurisdictions combed farms and forest in the rural area. On A-T-V's, on horseback and with K-9 crews, the mostly-volunteer team said they would not give up until this case is resolved.

"They all have that mission," said Lt. Mary Lindstrand, spokesperson for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. "And that mission is to bring Kyron home. And that's what we are going to do."

Recently-developed information led investigators to conclude there were areas of Sauvie Island that needed to be examined--and in some cases, reexamined--in greater detail.

Lindstrand did not say exactly what evidence the crews were looking for. But she said they were not following up on any one new tip.
"We're being thorough, is what we're doing," she said.

1) She probably planned this for months. I believe she began planning at least back in November.

2) If she planned it, she probably had a site prepared.

3) If she had an accomplice, then her time constraints aren't that important.

I recall that LE were looking for info on where she was on the 3rd as well as the 4th.

It really sickens me, but I agree. I do think her arrogance will be her un-doing. Taking him from school, counting on 'misinformation' about telling the teacher she was taking him to an appointment, the no-show at the Talent Show (especially if someone talked to her about him being in it, etc).

I also had the sick feeling today in my stomach that she killed him right away, then kept him in her white truck at both Freddies and made a HUGE point of being seen and getting receipts, then used the 1-1/2 hours after she left Freddie's but before the gym to zoom over and dispose of him (perhaps at SI). That would fit her timeline and LE's. She must have had a pre-planned spot picked out.

So why would she take the chance of carting him around in the truck before disposal? (First off, if she did this we have to agree she's nuts to begin with). But I believe TH's thinking was, if by chance Kyron is found right away on SI, the time of death would place her guess where - in Freddies and we'd all think 'well it sure wasn't her! She was in Freddies around the time he died." That's what I think she thinks. Can I say thinks any more times in one paragraph?

Now, I still hold onto my other hope and pray theory that she handed him off to an accomplice to hide him from 'evil Kaine' or even an SO (better than the alternative) and all this SI stuff is just her driving around like a crazy lady.

Yes, it is rough out there!
After I asked permission to take their pictures, I thanked them for all their hard work. They all were very humble and I've heard the same from previous searchers I talked with, they just want resolution.

I don't ask them search questions as I know they cannot answer and I would never want to put them in that position.

Even the Columbia County Deputy and I chatted for quite a long time and he was very kind.

Everyone just wants Kyron to be found!

well that last part about coming out there until they get resolution sure sounds like they know where Kyron is located, and now just need to find him. I hope someone is carping their pants right about now.:furious:

thx pdx and free for keeping us up to date. You rock1 :)

I'd be interested to know if Terri had ANY scratches on her face, hands, arms, legs, etc. on June 4. Most of these places look as though you have to go through brushery, etc. and surely you can't go very far into the area without a scratch whilst toting, pulling a child, bag, etc.

Looking very closely to her in short sleeve T shirt at family presser when this news first broke, she looks fine.

If she backed her truck up to a particular spot, had him in a weighted container or bag, and simply dropped that, it wouldn't be hard. It was muddy and rainy and she could have easily covered any tracks her truck made to waterways edge. She could have had plastic booties over her shoes and gloves and a throw-away poncho on as well. I think from her CSI shows she knew enough to not have marks on her body if at all possible.

To factor in Terri, we have to remember she went to the gym before she went home. Gives access to a shower. I fully believe LE have their trash (any possible clothes dump), so if there is any clothing etc. they have it IMO.

i don't know but will try to find out - might not have an answer till tomoz.

I don't know if this article has been posted here yet about today's search, but it is a honey, packed with info and has a great pic of the locale where they are searching today. You can see a big ditch which must hold water and so many of these connect to others, to where you have these swirling shaped water filled areas going north from the tippy top of sturgeon lake. I'm still looking for a good detailed map of those 2 ponds off to the west of rendenaar rd:
