All Things Britney Spears Part 1

Actually I believe you are correct!!!
Most car seats now are rear facing rather then using an infant one then one for an older child.

But still they are used in rear facing position while babies are little.

I was going to say the same but thought maybe it was different in the states? She really doesn't have a clue and she's having another baby??

Usually car seats are rear facing until the child is approximately 6 months of age or a certain weight. After that, they are front facing. He looks to be pretty big. I'd imagine he was over the weight for the rear facing seat. She needs to get some padding around his poor head though.

My daughter is almost 2 and that's how she looks just like that when she sleeps in the car seat-we call it the boneless baby pose-it looks painfully uncomfortable to me but she'll sleep like that for hours. We had one of the neck supports for her when she was tiny but once she hit about 6 months she'd just chuck it off so I'm guessing that Britney's baby would do the same.

The law in Iowa says they have to be rear facing for until they are 1 year old AND 20lbs-so even if they're 20 lbs at 9 months they have to stay rear facing. The law could be different where they live but it seems like he should still be rear facing to me. they outgrow the infant seat pretty fast but he's in a convertible car seat so it should be able to rear face.

Can't believe there's no hat on the poor kid-I hope she at least slathered him with sunscreen but that's probably even to much for Britany to do.

Poor baby probably passed out. Babies have a hard time breathing if a breeze is hitting them in the face, I can't imagine that I would want wind whipping past a baby that small even in good weather...and another thing I would worry about is things that could fly into the car and hit a baby....anything from a bumble bee to a rock thrown by another car tire...rare maybe but it happens. And as others have mentioned he is exposed to the sun not only on his skin but in his eyes....babies are a bit more sensitive than we are to these things....didn't anyone tell Britney that?

I can remember my son leaning over like that in his seat sometimes though when he fell asleep in it....but we usually would take a blanket or even a jacket and put it rolled up under his head when we noticed he looked uncomfortable.

Ya know, shes in curlers, how far do you think, she was going? Pictures can be decieving. It looks to me as if she was in makeup and had to go move her car. the baby could have already been asleep in the car seat.

Yep, she shouldnt have had kids....she really shouldnt.
She can't look after herself, what makes her think she can look after two kids
She hasn't done very well so far, money obviously doesn't buy sense.

...... was seen motoring through Malibu with the baby allegedly "lolling about" in his child seat

Britney Spears safety breach claims

Pat Bentley, of UK charity Roadpeace, said: "The child does not seem to be secured properly.

"There should be straps across the shoulders - but the way his shoulder is slumped forward, it appears there are no such straps."

According to Britain's The Sun newspaper, the baby was also facing forwards, despite the fact California police suggest tots under 12 months should travel in backwards-facing seats.

Spears had her safety belt on and i believe if she were simply moving the car a very short distance, she wouldn't use the belt on herself.

I heard this morning that CPS will be revisiting Britney because she violated the law once again with her baby. They read the statute that says the seat must be rear facing, but I was in the shower and couldn't write down which one it was. Here's what I found instantly on the laws and it didn't mention that:

Children MUST be secured in an appropriate child passenger restraint (safety seat or booster seat) until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds.

Remember: All children under 16 must ride properly buckled up. The cost of a violation is a $270 fine and a point on your driving record.

Child safety seat tips

Best place for a child is in the back seat.
Babies ride rear-facing and reclined (45-degree angle) until 1 year old and at least 20 pounds.
Toddlers ride forward-facing and upright with a harness until 40 pounds.
Children who are over 40 pounds or have outgrown the harness system use a lap and shoulder belt-positioning booster seat.

Found it:

California's New Child Passenger Safety Law

Effective January 1, 2005, California Law will require children to ride in the back seat in a properly secured child passenger safety restraint until they are at least 6 years old or weigh 60 pounds.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why was the law revised?

Children are at greater risk when riding in the front seat. A child's injury risk is reduced by 33% when moved from the front seat to the back seat.

2. Are there exemptions?

Yes, there are a few. Your child may ride in the front seat if:

Your vehicle has no rear seats.
Rear seats are side-facing jump seats.
Child safety restraints must never be placed on side-facing vehicle seats.
The child restraint system cannot be properly installed in the rear seat.
For example, your vehicle has lap belts only in the back seat, but there are lap and shoulder belts in the front seat. Your child is 5 and weighs 45 pounds and must ride in a booster seat. The booster seat must be used with a lap and shoulder belt; therefore your child may ride in the front seat.
Children under age 12 occupy all rear seats.
Medical reason (written by the pediatrician) requires that child not be restrained in the back seat. All children are safer in the back seat, ask another adult to ride with the child in the back.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

3. I have a car that has three lap belts in the back seat. The front seat has lap and shoulder belts. I have three children. The oldest is 5, weighs 45 pounds and rides in a booster seat; the second is 2, weighs 30 pounds and rides in a forward facing car seat with a 5-point harness; the third is 2 weeks old, weighs 9 pounds and rides in a rear-facing infant seat. How do I safely secure them?

The 5-year-old rides in a booster seat, which must be used with a lap and shoulder belt. The booster cannot be properly installed in the back seat with a lap belt. Therefore, by law, he may ride in the front seat using the booster seat and the lap and shoulder belt. The 2-year-old can ride forward-facing in a child restraint in the back seat. The infant must also ride in the back seat, in a rear-facing child restraint.

4. I have a pick-up truck with no back seat. There is a driver and passenger air bag. Sometimes I have to transport my 6-month old grandson. How can I do so safely?

Your grandson must be restrained in a rear-facing restraint. A rear-facing infant must never be placed in front of an airbag. However, just pick-up trucks have an air bag on/off switch. If your truck has the switch, turn off the air bag and move the vehicle seat as far back as possible. If you cannot switch off the airbag, use a different vehicle when transporting your grandson.

5. I have three children, one is 11 and weighs 80 pounds, the second is 4 and weighs 50 pounds and the third is 5 months old and weighs 15 pounds. My car has two lap and shoulder belts and one lap belt in the back seat. How should I secure them?

According to California law, the 11-year-old can ride in the front seat. However, the back seat is the safest place for all children, so place them all in the back. The 11-year-old needs the lap and shoulder belt. The 4-year-old needs a booster seat used with a lap and shoulder belt. The 5-month-old needs to be in a rear facing restraint, which can be placed in the middle and secured with the lap belt.

I kind of wish 3 strikes applies to stupid parents. If she is NOT fined, there should be an inquiry. She's put that poor baby at risk TWICE with her bad driving decisions. :slap:

Perhaps she should get a mini-van so the photographers don't see her. I can't even imagine having my child in a convertible in the hot Cali sun with no hat on.Kids burn so quick. Now she is going to have 2? Good grief!:loser:

Good Lord that girl has no sense.. honestly we make people get a license so that they can marry or drive .. but anyone can have a child without any requirements or training or common sense. In this case this girl needs a real wake up call and needs childcare classes.

My son sleeps like that too. His doctor has said that even though it looks painful to us, it isn't to them. Babies and small children are made to be flexible like that so as to avoid injury.

I kinda feel sorry for Brit. Every little thing she does is scrutinized and critiqued by the public. She is a young mom and she isn't always going to do things perfectly. (I know I made many mistakes when I first became a mom.)Hopefully, she really does love her babies and does her best and things will work out well for them in the end.

Now if she would just dump that piece of poo she hooked up with.

I am more concerned with the danger of a flying object or harmful sunburn than the fact that he is curled up forward. Also, no excuse for the fact that he is facing forward. She didn't read the instructions that came with the car seat. They clearly state that a small baby should be faced toward the seat. I agree....she SHOULD dump the "piece of poo!"

Agreed. It wasn't just a suggestion, its the law.
