CarpeDiem - that's a great observation. I actually know quite a few folks (some mentally healthy, some not so much) who drive to decompress.

I agree. However, I don't see how Britney could decompress with several dozen photos chasing after her. She could so easily just stay home and be with friends. I think she's addicted to the attention more than anything. They say there's always a pay off for this type of thing and she must have been getting something that she needed from being followed around 24/7. Maybe since she can't perform anymore, this is her "audience" that she craves.

I absolutely agree. I have a friend who moved to the LA area recently, and she said that one day she was out shopping at a strip center when the clerk asked (this past summer) if she wanted to see Britney Spears. Brittney was shopping at the Petco and all the paparazzi were out in force. It was obvious that someone had alerted them that she was going to be there.

It's a sad, sick thing to need an audience to admire you and take photos when you are just "shopping" for dog food.

I always thought she was thrown into show biz by her greedy parents who IMO lack good parenting skills.

I further think that she would have gotten help at a much younger age had her parents and handlers not been so worried about image and making money.
Maybe they were so busy spending they never even noticed the symptoms...
But I doubt that.
Even now I think her parents are only putting up the appearances of "helping" her for the media.
If they truly cared they would have gotten her help a long long long time ago and out of the glare of the media.

You might be right, Am, in your assessment of Brit and her mom, but I think this has more to do with their dynamics and personalities. I think Britney is a much more forceful personality than her Mom. I think she has been controlling her Mom since she was a teen.

We can say - well, a good Mom wouldn't let that happen - but that exactly describes my relationship with my Mom. If I were Britney and my Mom were Lynne and I were a runwaway train, my Mom would want badly to help me but she wouldn't stand a chance. I would run roughshod over her - I always have.

Now, my Mom's not a bad Mom and she loves me very much, but her personality never really stood a chance against mine. That just is what it is. I think this dynamic plays out between Britney (who ironically shares my birthday) and her Mom.

I don't think Lynn just saw a money making opportunity in her daughter. I think she saw a bright shooting star and never had a clue how to reign it in. I have a lot of sympathy for Lynn - as I do for my own longsuffering Mom!

I agree, Jeana. I have to say that I don't think I have ever seen attention-craving played out so dramatically as with her. It really does boggle my mind. I'm am so sad for her that the thing she craves the most - publicity and attention - is the thing that I feel to be so detrimental to her mental and spiritual health.

She truly needs some peace and time to be with herself and find a center. I don't think she even knows where to begin to look for that.

I am concerned that even if she is kept in this hospital and put on meds for a while, she will just go off them again once she gets out. As most of us know, she needs some serious long-term rehabilitation. My continued prayers are with her.

I completely agree with this post!!! Good job!

Sources at UCLA Medical Center tell TMZ Britney Spears has been classified as "G.D." - Greatly Disabled. That is a huge and dangerous deal. That means the patient is unable to take care of basic needs, such as the acquisition of food, clothing or shelter. Being G.D. is one of the criteria for involuntary commitment.

Several health care professionals tell us Britney has fallen into a "manic state" due to her bipolar disorder. We're also told, she arrived at the hospital this morning at around 2:15 AM but wasn't admitted until 4:15 AM, because she was causing such a scene in the hospital.

We first reported that Britney accused her mother of sleeping with her boyfriend. Now we have more. We're told Britney screamed, "the only reason she's admitting me is because she wants to be alone with her boyfriend! She wants to sleep with my boyfriend!!" Britney never said exactly who she was talking about.

When Brit calmed down, she talked about her kids, how much she misses them and how it's unfair that she doesn't have them.

Now,I'm all for freedom of the press, and all.But since it is pretty much established that Brit is clinically unstable,I really hope when she is released from the hospital, there will be some type of restraint orders put on the photographers.if not,I really think it is harrassment of an unstable person.

Leave her alone,for gods sake.

I want to know how all the paps are allowed into her gated community. I would be livid if I were her neighbor and this circus was going on nonstop.

I am thrilled to hear she has been hospitalized again. Maybe when she gets settled and less manic, someone could send Patty Duke Austin to talk to her. Patty has already lived this same thing. Hopefully Brit can get some insight to what is going on with herself.

i feel horrible for her too. i mean, honestly she must be completely in distress if she is saying her mom is sleeping with k-fed.
i think that she need to stay as long as possible to get herself squared out.

I'm not sure she will ever be out again. some people have to stay in mental health facilities.

it's extraordinary to imagine what it must have been like to be married to her. i'm not suddenly calling KFed husband or father of the year, but he clearly put up with some heavy things. he wasn't mature enough to be able to help her. bottom line is he was only in it for the money anyway, but he got more than he bargained for.

i'm glad they put a stop to her being with the children when they did because it's chilling to imagine what she could be capable of.

this past year has been like watching a freak show and equally cruel. i have been guilty of such until i've finally realised she is seriously mentally ill.

I was never a fan of Britney's, but watching this whole thing day in and day out is terribly heartbreaking. The poor girl is in desperate need of psychiatric care, and I for one truly hopes she benefits from this latest hospital stay. Imagine having your entire life and apparant breakdown plastered all over the tabloids and TV for the entire world to see. And beyond that having people judge and scrutinize your every move and parenting abilities.

Bipolar and mania are difficult to treat because the patient does start feeling better on meds, and then STOP taking them which puts them into another episode. It's a vicious cycle. I can't help but feel sorry for her and her family. I have no doubt that she loves her children, it's just that she appears to be mentally ill and quite possibly has no concept of what this is doing to her children.

This is all my opinion only, and thanks for letting me into this forum :)

Hi Pepperoni! Welcome to WS. I agree with everything you wrote as I've seen this happen in my own family.

It's difficult enough to get through this (if you ever get through it) living a "typical" life, let alone one where everyone reports on your every move.

Welcome Pepperoni-this is one of my daughter's favorite foods!!!

I am grateful that BS is being seriously evaluated-and I want to throw something out to all of you. I think that BS need for the paparazzi is to prove that she still exists and is still in "demand." Sort of like a child's need for negative attention, but on steroids. This could be one of the measures that she uses for her poor self. Am I making sense? I had a friend once who constantly checked herself out in mirrors, windows you name it. For the longest time I assumed it was vanity, and then one day I found out she was doing it because she wasn't really sure she was THERE...like she didn't exist?...this friend was so small inside...she thought sometimes that she could just disappear.

BS is going to have to find another way to build a foundation under herself that is REAL. You and I as real people know that children, family, health, work, etc...is the basis of a life. But we were not raised inside such a superficial world as the LA Money making machine. Someone so fragile emotionally and mentally to begin with was bound to get chewed up-she is getting older and is no longer a pop princess. She was a wife and is a mother. That is something that entails sacrifice and maturity...she is unfamiliar with either in a world that rewards her for being a "bad girl." She reminds me of Marylin Monroe who often stated sadly that she was pursued and bedded by men who were looking for the conquest of a star. She felt she could never measure up to their expectations because in the end she was just a woman with the same body parts as everyone else, lol. In other words, these guys didn't want to get close to Norma Jean....it is the same with BS. What an incredibly sad and lonely life.
