I'm still wondering why the doctor said it was ok for britney to leave in the first place. .....

My understanding is that the MDs cannot keep her if she settles down, does not appear to be an active danger to herself or others and wants to go home.

I do not fault the docs with releasing her. You shouldn't be able to keep someone in a lockdown psych ward unless the danger is very very serious and immediate.

Britney has not bottomed out with her mental illness. She will not get better until she has some desire to do so. No one can make her.

I guess I don't fault the doctor now either because Jaime as a conservator agreed with Britney to seek Outpatient care. She was mandated to stay for a full fourteen days for testing and treatment by the court.

This whole situation is just so sad. I am praying she gets better

This whole situation is like watching a train bearing down on a car stalled on the tracks and not being able to do anything to stop it! It's sad and horrifying!

Egads... I just got up... thought this was a JOKE... but OMG, it isn't. I do not know what to make of it... other than... well, I won't be surprised if she ends up dead, soon. Not meaning to be harsh, but between behavior and the company she keeps, the girl is on a fatal path.

I'm glad I read on one page farther before I responded to the posts questioning the hospitals releasing of Britney. You are absolutely right, SCM!! And I, for one, thank Goddness that Psychiatric hospitals cannot just keep people once the immediate danger to self or others is gone.

Britney needs more help and I pray she gets it but I agree with you completely, SCM, until she wants it it just isn't going to happen!

The following statement was released to CNN's Anderson Cooper by Jamie and Lynne Spears, Britney's parents:

"As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe. We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk. There are conservatorship orders in place created to protect our daughter that are being blatantly disregarded. We ask only that the court's orders be enforced so that a tragedy may be averted."

Now that Britney Spears has been released from the UCLA Medical Center psych ward, her father is coming to live with her, Access Hollywood has exclusively learned.
A source close to the family told Access that Jamie will move in with his daughter. He will monitor her along with another person who will act as a guardian/sobriety type of coach, the source revealed.

Let's see if that works.

I hope her parents stick to their guns. Court ought to be very interesting tomorrow.

From SuziQ's comment:
"that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital"

How sad is that.

Let's see, Brit's condition is so serious that her affairs were removed entirely from her control. A few days later her shrink releases Brit because Brit asked her to? Isn't the whole point that Brit doesn't know what's good for her? How can someone go from gravely disabled to being released from care in a few days?

ETA: when you think about it, Brit's behavior today is normal considering she could not be that much better in a few days. I hope her doc feels like a fool.

We got two conflicting links. The Chicago Sun Times link states Britney struck a deal with her parents to get Outpatient care and leave the hospital setting. Now the parents are objecting because they believe Britney's life is presently at risk and that they are extremely disappointed in the psychiatrist. They also cited that the conservatorship orders are being blatantly disregarded. What really happened?

I'd go with Jamie and Lynne's official statement. Not some "source" from a newspaper. JMO

I think you're right. Britney is already seeing her boyfriend and consulting with Streisand. The parents don't like either of them.

http://www.tmz.com/2008/02/07/theyll-probably-be-back-in-britney-court-tomorrow/

Based on what we know, it's a good bet Jamie Spears will be back in court -- we're guessin' tomorrow -- asking the Commish to put some teeth in the conservatorship order. That order gives the conservator power to restrict the visitors Brit receives. No doubt Ma and Pa were frustrated that Brit let a paparazzo ride with her in her car today. And we're hearing they were none too happy about the people she saw at the Bev Hills Hotel.

It wouldn't be at all unusual for the conservator to ask for an order requiring the cops to enforce the instructions Jamie lays down. In other words, he could call the Bev Hills Police and ask them to remove the pap from the car.

Likewise, the conservatorship gives Jamie the right to approve contracts. It's a good bet he would not have approved Britney buying stuff or getting a room at the hotel. Think about the cops going to the hotel and telling the manager they can't let Brit buy stuff or get rooms without Jamie's consent and if they defied Jamie they could be held in contempt.

We'll be in court tomorrow ... just in case, so stay tuned
