I also think the call could have been handled better, and he should have stayed on the line until officers arrived. I am certain that this dispatcher in retrospect will be kicking himself in the butt, no harm no foul, and hopefully he may learn to do his job better for the future out of this.
Out of everything I could critique I felt was handled wrongly in the call, the thing that struck me the oddest is he would not stay on the line. When I dispatched during a call such as this we were taught to stay on the line in case something went wrong while the officers were in route, sometimes sadly we are the only witness to what transpires during that waiting time. IMHO

The dispatcher did know she wasn't alone- Charles made the initial call, I would hope if she had called on her own he would have not let her hang up.

The 911 operator sounds like a woman to me (I'm an hour from Cleveland). I had to re-listen again and I guess it could be a man... but sounds like a woman to me... anyone know for sure because it makes a bit of a difference in how they sound (panicked or not).

was a reward still out there for these girls?
if so, Charles deserves it!

This article here has more info from neighbors and acquaintances, and also has a 911 call made. It is a shorter, different one than the other one I heard with Berry's voice on it. It's got lots of swearing, its not redacted. be warned.
You have to scroll way down to see the little audio player of the 911 call.

ETA: Fix my typos!: There are two 911 calls. One from Charles and one from Amanda. Charles says in this 911 call that Amanda is on the phone calling them too. (I just noticed this and am sharing)

ETA: off topic but my Husband heard me play this 911 call and he cracked up and said Charles is the man!

Hahn, ok I may have made a hasty accusation then. Thanks for the clarification.

Amanda and I are the same age, I can't imagine losing out on the last 10 years of my life. Graduating high school, prom, college, first love, first job, last love, marriage, etc etc etc! She looks SO HAPPY though yay for Amanda! You were so brave for your little girl, the other girls and everyone else in the house!

Operator that talked to Amanda Berry is a woman. Operator that talked to the man who found her is a man.

That's what I thought... people keep referring to the woman as a man though, lol. Thanks for clearing that up.

CNN is reporting Castro has a grown daughter who would sometimes come over with her kids.

He must have kept his captives in a sound-proof space, especially since there was a little child who as a baby would cry like any normal baby. A baby isn't going to stop crying just because the guy has company. Chilling what their living conditions must have been.

Certainly will be interesting to find out how his daughter never clued into anything strange going on in the house. Maybe he locked them in rooms and gagged them when she was visiting. Told her he had boarders? You would think though that if they knew someone besides him was in the house they would've raise a ruckus. This is shocking.

Praying for other missing children to come home safe and sound to their families and loved ones.

What a glorious day and thank you JESUS! I couldn’t help but cry tears of joy when I heard Amanda’s 911 call and she said "I'm here, I'm free now!" Thank God, they are free!

They are not mentioning Michelle Knight at all for some reason.

I just......still......ohmygod. Amanda Berry's case is the one that has haunted me the entire time I've been here on WS. This is surreal........

Berry and Amanda? Or do you mean Charles and Amanda? Amanda Berry is the woman Charles the neighbour helped out of the house. Or is there another 911 call I missed? Sorry just confused Kat.

Sorry to Cleveland residents but my first thought when I heard was the guy who was a serial killer and had all those bodies in the house. Sowards maybe?

Thankfully these girls/women are alive! And from what I heard in the 911 call, she told the dispatcher "I am the one who is missing, I've been on TV". It sounds like she saw the coverage about her disappearance. That would be so hard. Knowing they were looking, so hopeful they would find her, but ten years later having to save herself!

They are alive, they are safe now but they have a long way to go. They need to deal with seeing relatives, deal with media, deal with their release from captivity, introduce their children to their families, deal with the family feelings and so much yet to come. Then when they finally start to get their feet on the ground, it will be time for the trial.

They have a long way to go.

I am still amazed as to how the suspect managed to keep the girls with neighbors not noticing anything. Houses seem very close together. Totally bizarre.
