CLEVELAND -- Exactly one week ago Monday night, Cleveland police officers were rushing to Seymour Street after a woman with a child called 911 for help.

Veteran dispatcher Jennifer Daunch
/ CBS News
Steps away from the 911 operator who took the call, veteran police dispatcher Jennifer Daunch declared a Code One, ordering an immediate response from officers in the area.

"I saw it on the screen first. My partner and I looked at each other and somehow we had a feeling that it could be her," she said. "Any call that says, 'I'm Amanda Berry, I've been gone for 10 years,' you have a sense of urgency."

"My heart was racing," Daunch recalled. "I mean, I was trembling. I was crying."

I think the brothers would like to get their hands on him. AC knew what he was doing was wrong and he was clever enough to hide it from everyone. I hope the public leaves the family alone. They are victims in this as well.

Like the one brother said in the video when ask about noticing anything strange, his response was that he was a strange dude. Well, if you grow up with someone that is a strange dude all their life then there really aren't those signs. Apparently, he didn't start acting differently overnight after he kidnapped these girls. He just went on with life as he normally would from the standpoint of those around him. I find it amazing that he even let anyone enter his house.

They had a sketch of this guy and I thought they had a description of the car as well ??? Yet apparently none of his friends, family, LE or even the girls parents suspected it was him. If it's true that his ex's boyfriend or husband dropped his name to LE, then that makes it even more disturbing. Amanda's mother even stated that she received a phone call from a man days after she disappeared and the guy said he would have her home in a few days. Did the police even try and trace that call? This all is very frustrating to think that he was so close for all those years and never caught.

A true wolf in sheeps clothing.

The call came from Amandas cell if I remember correctly??!

The police dispatch recordings from the arrest mid page of this article. Not much to them though.

This article also has details of other brushes with the law he has had in more detail than I have read before. Sounds like he was never a nice man to begin with.

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/inde...rts_re.html#incart_m-rpt-2#incart_maj-story-2

Boy, talk about a contrast from some of the other things we've heard though. A few quotes from the article and my thoughts:

"<snip>...threatened neighbors who crossed him."

I had the impression earlier that most of the neighbors pretty much liked him. Seems maybe that wasn't the case? But they were probably afraid of him IMO.

"Police reports indicate he attacked her Sept. 30, 1989, when one of Castro's brothers arrived at his home and wanted to go out with him. Figueroa asked where they would go. That's when Castro became violent, according to the police report."

So... which brother was this? Is there one other than the two we've heard about? Because those two said something about him being a little "off" but IIRC they didn't say anything about him being violent, did they? Or at least they seemed surprised by it. Although no matter how "off" someone was I guess it's almost unfathomable that someone would do what AC did... but still, they must've at minimum seen some pretty bad violence.

"On Nov. 29, 1994, a property owner reported that Castro tried to attack him with a shovel, a police report shows. The property owner had a rental property near Castro's home on Seymour Avenue. The property owner asked what had happened to a chain-link fence that was missing. Castro, according to the report, flew into a rage and grabbed a shovel."

Guess this wasn't one of the neighbors he BBQ'd with.

Over and over, "No charges were filed." Makes me want to scream!

The neighbor he threatened moved away and was renting to Charles Ramsey.

I think his whole family knew that he beat his wife badly. That is normal behaviour for some families.

I never knew that flossing teeth was considered to be bizarre behavior.

It is if you floss them with loose strings still attached to a mattress.

How did he get a job driving a bus full of children with this record? :/

Probably because charges were never filed?

I don't know for sure but I imagine it's a lot tougher to sift through old police reports when charges weren't filed. For that matter I wonder if legally a company/district/etc. could use the reports (if found) when making employment decisions. If no charges were filed he was never officially accused of doing it, right? I don't know, just guessing.

Sorry, I haven't read any further than this, so this might have been addressed already. At the 1:50 mark, they interview a guy (on the Gina DeJesus video)...is that Ariel Castro!?!?!?!?!?!?!

omg...it does look like him and he does say she's a friend of his daughters...Dear God!!!

It seems like that the friend borrowing money from Gina should have been a huge red flag.(has this story changed?). I mean think about it and connect the dots-friend borrows phone money to make phone call.... friend is denied permission to visit Gina...Gina is now left without bus fare...Gina is forced to walk home. Coincidence that Castro, the kidnapper, just happened on Gina? I don't thinks so, but even if it was a coincidence, investigators should have made the connection of WHY Gina was forced to walk on the day she was kidnapped. If she normally rode the bus, it rules out someone who had watched and learned her daily pattern. Just curious, after the 2 girls parted ways, did they go in different directions? Did they both have to walk?

In one of the original articles from Gina's disappearance her mother said she gave her money for the bus, but Gina often used the money to buy snacks/soda/candy, etc... and would walk home anyway. So, it sounds like even though she sometimes took the bus, it was not uncommon for her to decide to use the money for other purposes (or maybe save it) and walk home.

Did he let her have the child because her Mom died? Timing seems to make sense.

I watched the brothers interview on CNN. I actually felt sorry for them. They hoped AC would rot in jail because he had done so much damage that his crime actually ruined the entire family. The two brothers have to keep looking over their shoulder fearing someone would harm them or to burn their house down. Imagine having to live in shame, embarrassment, and fear because someone you're related to did something evil? I bet they wished their family was a club where they could just discontinue their membership.

This^^^

Their lives too have now been damaged. Not to take anything away from the girls, but the brothers and mother have received death threats and have had to leave town for a while! Thats not fair either...

Nothing AC did was fair, or right, or just or wholesome. It appears everything he did had another purpose, he was sadistic, conniving, manipulative, cruel and so much more :(

It is if you floss them with loose strings still attached to a mattress.

Honestly if I was sitting in a jail cell 24 hrs. a day with no TV, no newspapers, no visitors, I'd probably be flossing my teeth with loose mattress strings too. :behindbar

I won't say "no one" because that's a pretty wide blanket statement, but I can tell you this:

I live in the Cleveland area, I am in a town outside of the city.
I am the same age as MK.
I vividly remember missing posters for the other two girls, along with many others! I work in a place (for 10 years next month) that attracts a lot of foot traffic. I tend to pay very close attention to the posters just in case. At one point in my life I thought I would be the person who solved a missing persons case....

I do not ever remember any posters of MK. The name didn't ring a bell, nothing. I point out that we are the same age because one would think that, if LE was unwilling to make a big deal out of this missing person that someone in the family would be going to every local hot spot for a 20-something female. I recall nothing, I remember no one talking about it, not even in passing.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm just saying that if it did, it wasn't very effective because neither myself or any of my friends/family seem to recall anything about her disappearance. :(

ABsoultely agree. I live in NE ohio and I knew the names of Amanda Berry and Gina Dejesus and have never heard of Michell Knight.

Did he let her have the child because her Mom died? Timing seems to make sense.

I think it was just a coincidence of timing as we've heard nothing about Amanda losing any prior pregnancies. I also think that Michelle begged Castro to let her go so she could continue to fight for custody of her son. Learning that she had lost custody probably caused him to believe that she was unsuitable as a mother for his children, hence the five brutally forced miscarriages.

The two brothers that we have seen interviewed recently gave a different license plate and described a different car.

I am not sure that license plate makes any sense. It's a custom plate, but it doesn't correspond to either the first or last name of Castro's.

"They called police to report a man in in a grey SUV with licence plate 'ELLIOTC' talking to the girl.

Moments before, they claim, the man had cut them off in traffic, doing a U-turn to approach the girl.

"I don't believe [police] listened to me at all or checked it all," said one of the brothers.""

You know what's weird about that? Ariel Castro bought his house from someone named Elliot Castro. (ELLIOTC)
