The suggestion up thread was that if people knew police could randomly come and search houses these things would maybe stop happening. I said that would never happen in the US because of our constitution.
LE can not search without cause in the case of a crime they can ask to search but they have to have just cause to do so without consent. .

I don't see why police would even need to search random houses in this case, when suspect's daughter was one of the last people to see Gina before Gina went missing. Sounds like police could have just searched suspect's house and save everybody a lot of grief.

This is my first official post on Websleuths. I've been reading for almost 9 years, finally became a member a few months ago, and am coming out of lurker-land to comment on this case. I have always wondered about Amanda and Gina, always hoping they were together. I remember driving by that Burger King while visiting family and trying to put myself in their shoes. I am so incredibly relieved. The joy last night was the same I felt for Elizabeth Smart, Shawn Hornbeck, and Jaycee Dugard (with a bit of laughter, thanks to Mr. Ramsey!).
I will continue to read updates from all of you talented sleuthers. Thanks for doing what you do!
ETA: My happiness includes Michelle, also. I hope she will find supportive friends or family members.

I read that the ex wife had died of cancer. She was approx 47 years old and really attractive, vibrant looking lady who was dearly loved by her children

I didn't get the same implication. I took "that would never work here" to mean that the circumstances were different and there was not enough information available to justify a door to door search in any given area.

Correct. That makes sense to me too, since the photo of him standing in front of the basement door is from 2001 (BEFORE Michelle was kidnapped) -- and it clearly has a padlock on it. Who was down there in 2001?!

Perhaps I'm not recalling the story correctly. I thought the name was already etched into the wall when Michelle was captured and the RIP was added later. Michelle has told investigators that there was another girl there when she arrived, and that shortly afterwards that girl disappeared while Michelle was sleeping. If there'd been another girl, one who added the RIP, Michelle would have known about her too.

I feel sorry for Michelle especially. It does not seem like anyone was even looking for her, that has got to hurt. She was missing for 12 years, yet there does not seem to be a large scale searcH? They just accepted someone would just leave and no one was looking for her.they never even put out a picture it seems!

I just hope that she does not gets all kinds of people caring now bc they think she will be in the money. She will be victimized twice, once by this perp and again by hanger ons who try to profits for her.

I hope she has a good support system (it seems though like she does not) and gets reunited w her son.

Yes, I was going to post the same thing. I also hope the media leaves her past alone and just celebrates her as a human being who has a new chance on life. But that won't be good drama, so I'm sure her life will be an open book.

Here is the article. It gets worse and worse. So this woman left Ariel Castro and married Fernando Colon who later has been convicted of molesting two daughters. Where does it stop?

"Colon also had a close connection to Ariel Castro. He was married to Castro’s ex-wife and was step-father to Castro’s four children. In 2004, Colon was convicted of two counts of gross sexual imposition and classified as a sex offender for molesting two of Castro’s daughters."

WOW wow and wow :O This case is just a day old and so much horrific and stunning information has come to light already. I don't know about you folks but my head is just spinning. Justice will be served in this case, no doubt in my mind. Let's hope the three perps just plead guilty and be done with them. Spare everyone the heartache and the poor girls of having to deal with a trial and these sicko again. No trial. Lock them up and throw away the key. :moo:

How credible is this source? It does seem to support the idea that Colon might have been framed.

Not sure what to think on the Colon thing. On the one hand I can see a monster who was controlling and resentful attempting to rid himself of the problem of his ex's new man.

On the other, people fall into patterns. They pick a similar "type" Women who pick a bad man sometimes move onto the next bad man.

There is a comment under the profile photo of one of Castro's family members. If read with a slightly suspicious mind, it could appear that more than just the three brothers knew the girls were there.

It has been mentioned that the woman who was there disappeared while she was sleeping. I get the impression that the RIP may be info from the source, but, could be not directly related to the unknown woman. I wonder if one of the girls (Amanda, Gina, or Michelle) made a memorial for a child who did not survive. We are hearing about multiple pregnancies lost. Possible an infant came to term or near term and died?

The abductions were so close together, I can't help but wonder why. Surely three girls is even more trouble and certainly more risky than just one. Did he get cocky and think it was easy? Was there one for each brother? (sorry to add that stomach churner).

My point though - Michelle didn't make it onto the CharleyProject. If there was another kidnapping before her then maybe that girl wasn't on there either. Or maybe from out of state? Another 'runaway'.

Confusing. The neighbor who let them use the phone to call 911 said there was a 3 year old or so child with her and a 9 year old child came out later. Then Amanda's cousin outside the hospital said something about an infant. The picture of the 6 year old looks like a 6 year old. But the conference said just one child age 6 so I guess that is what it is.

No, I don't believe it would be allowed - I might even be dipping my toe into the 'naughty water' by hinting about it. The page it is on belongs to a family member who has not been named as a suspect and therefore we are not allowed to sleuth.
