Just read the article and it's really inspiring! A few things of note:

- It says the women do stay in touch
- Amanda's planning to homeschool her daughter at least at first, and is also considering college in the future
- Amanda took her daughter on what's described as a "carefree" trip to the mountans where they "ran and played"
- Gina's described as thankful, but a little "tentative" around people other than immediate family
- Both Gina and Amanda seem to be getting out and about quite a bit. They don't say much about what Michelle is up to, but describe her as "very positive and cheerful."
- The neighbors as well as the city of Cleveland want the house demolished. I'm sure that'll take awhile, but I think this is the best possibility for this house!
- Charles Ramsey is listed as a "former dishwasher" and is now doing paid speaking appearances (or planning to, hard to tell if he's done any yet)
- Cleveland Courage Fund is mentioned and there's also a special call-out box with more info

Unfortunately there's a photo of AC. Yuck, I could do without seeing him, but the rest of the article made up for it.

He's never seeing the light of day. Hope he enjoys his own captivity

Well, we knew more charges were coming against Ariel Castro.
He was indicted again today on hundreds of new charges covering the latter part of the girl's captivity.

977 TOTAL CHARGES. Wow...

Here's a link to article discussing the new indictment:

And the indictment itself:

It sounds like they won't go for the death penalty.... though it isn't completely off the table.

What happened to the defense saying that if the death penalty was taken off the table, they might agree to life without parole? They seem to be backing off of that.

Ariel Castro's attorneys say he will plead not guilty to the new charges when he's arraigned tomorrow.

Zero chance a trial will start on Aug. 5

So, Castro appeared in court today and it was quite a bit different this time. There was a female judge presiding and she told him to lift up his face and look at her! (I have been waiting for someone to say this to him.) He finally looked up, but did not open his eyes and she told him to open them. She had to tell him three separate times to open his eyes or lift up his head. At one point he said he was trying to! The judge would not let him mumble, either. His own attorneys kept prompting him to say yes, open eyes, etc. If you had the the nerve to do all you've done, then be a man and face the music. What a coward he has turned out to be. His judge will be Mike Russo and he will be back in his court next Wednesday. I believe they will be dropping the first 300+ charges and adding them to this set for a total of 977 in Russo's court. Today's judge also insisted on reading all the charges out loud today. +There were 350+ of one thing, 100+ of another, and so on. Additionally, there was one count of child endangerment for Amanda's daughter. A local attorney said this judge was making sure there was no room for appeals on any of this today. She wanted to make sure he heard and acknowledged what she said directly. Also, he said judges almost never read all the charges once the attorneys have waived them, but that she did to again make sure he knew everything. Great judge!!

LOL I bet that is hard on ole AC. In public, a woman telling him what to do! And his attorneys telling him he has to do it! LOL what is this world coming to?

I just wish his trial judge was going to be a woman. Here's hoping his jury is mostly female.

Here's a video of Ariel Castro's arraignment earlier today.

As mentioned in the above comments, AC gets chewed out by the judge a few times for keeping his eyes shut and head down.

This was painful to watch! In part due to having to see him, yuck. It was also great to see him this way though. Poor baby, "I'm trying" on keeping his eyes open... seriously? I must admit even knowing what he's done ("allegedly" and all) it's hard to believe this man who can't even keep his eyes open did such horrible things. I can see why no one really suspected anything was off.

Bravo for the judge making him pay attention and look at her.

A couple things:

1) I am sure that many of you know this already, but for those of you who don't: Ariel Castro will have his 4th pretrial this Wednesday, July 24th (@9 AM). Too bad the presiding judge will be Russo, not the woman from last week who kept telling him to pick his head up!

2) Anyone hear anything about *female* fetuses beyond WKYC's twitter post?

My Cleveland cousin says he saw Amanda at hip-hop concert on Sunday. (Same event as the above tweet maybe?)

Everyone there recognized her, but everyone per her wishes also kept a respectful distance and gave her her space. She was wearing sunglasses indoors, but in general looked happy and seemed to be having fun.

Good! I hope at some point that Michelle and Gina are able to feel that they can get out and have fun.

Sometimes if they are strong enough it is best to just get out, let people see and go on with your life in public. Eventually people get used to seeing you, and they forget to stare.

Hi, story on newsnet5.com today. They are still working on a plea deal. I dont see him getting anything less than life in prison. I hope they get a deal. I hate to think of the women going in to court to testify.. :seeya:

  • #617
I agree with you. I think him being caged up with convicts for the rest of his life would be a good punishment for keeping those three women caged. (I just wish he wouldn't get outdoor privileges.) But it would also make sure those women did not have to relive their torture on the stand and have to go through cross examination.

However I also think that it should be up to the girls. No plea should be given unless all three girls are 100 % ok with it.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/25/justice/ohio-castro/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

(CNN) -- Prosecutors have offered Ariel Castro, a Cleveland man accused of holding three women captive for about a decade, a plea deal that removes the possibility of the death penalty, a Cuyahoga County courts source said Thursday.

The defense is considering the deal, and there is no signed agreement.

The deal would include a recommendation to keep Castro in prison for life, the source said.

It sounds like the girls are for it. So I can easily say I am for it.

Now can we hand pick his cell mate?
