Amanda Knox Discussion-Friendly Thread

New information has been received about the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher, sources have confirmed to Sky News.
The sources - from Perugia prosecutor's office - said a decision had not yet been made on whether to formally open a new investigation.
The tip came from former Perugia prosecutor Giuliano Mignini, who led the original investigation into the 21-year-old's murder in the Italian university town.
According to newspaper La Stampa, Mr Mignini has reported the name of a new potential suspect who allegedly fled Italy "a few days" after the murder.
"There are indications that this person may be implicated. It's someone I've never considered before," Mr Mignini told the publication.
The former prosecutor said he was given the name from a source he considers "reliable".
Mr Mignini first told Sky News about the possibility of a culprit still at large last year.
"There may still be a culprit who took part in the murder and who has not been discovered yet," he said.
Rudy Guede, from the Ivory Coast, was convicted in 2008 of the sexual assault and murder of Ms Kercher. His DNA was found at the scene. He was released from prison in 2021 after serving 13 years of a 16-year term.
Amanda Knox - along with her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito - was also convicted of the murder of her British roommate, before being acquitted and then fully exonerated by Italy's Supreme Court.
In an exclusive interview with Sky's Italian news channel in 2024, Ms Knox said she had been "unjustly accused for 17 years" and had not killed anyone.
Mr Mignini did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Rudy Guede in a wig.

How odd that this new information would come out 18 years later.

And Mignini saying there may be others at large responsible. Is he referring to Knox and Sollecito?

Does anyone think anything will come of this?

Wouldn't go that far. They've come to an understanding and don't hate each other. He still refuses to admit that he was wrong, although he got about as close as you could get without actually saying it.

they need to stop acting like this case wasn’t solved the moment Rudy was convicted

Exactly. Let it go. He did it. Nobody else. This wasn't some sadistic college party with weird sex. How many more lives does this guy have to ruin?

They had been for a time, but he seems to have changed his mind. I wonder what this is all about, and if anything will come from it?

yeah like this whole best buds thing. sounded hinky...he is nothing if not devoted to truly solving this case though...as he has never seemed sure of the outcomes in the trials. mOO

as someone new to this case, who has read just a few overviews, I have to ask... is there anything at all that points to knox and her bf being involved? anything that points to anything other than guede?

afaict, the police and/or prosecution jumped to conclusions early based on essentially nothing, interpreted evidence with confirmation bias, and then spent way too long clinging to a position they were invested in out of dumb pride or whatever.

I'm sorry but regardless of what happened..Amanda went to jail for slander and falsely identifying someone as a killer. Mig's suspicions of Amanda were not unfounded and I feel he deserves more credit than he gets, not only that this has been very hard on his reputation. I feel he gets a lot of criticism he doesn't deserve. His hinky meter was pinging on Amanda and hinky is his job!

mOO.

it was shitty of her to accuse an innocent person based on nothing, and it was right for her to be held accountable for that.

as far as the murder itself, gut feelings can be helpful, but are not conclusive. actual evidence is what matters, and that's for good reason. a cop should understand that. the prosecution theory that they cleaned up the crime scene in such a way that they selectively left only evidence of guede, and a ton of it, is so absurd, it basically makes the defense's argument for them.

I know I'm not supposed to say this on a Knox friendly discussion thread but Amanda Knox is a liar who lied in an international murder investigation...so what ever she says and however she paints it , that is a fact. so really you can't trust her. Anyone who would lie and say an innocent person committed a vicious murder is not a person of character. mOO
